Grats on Ding/Goal Fulfilled Thread
So we've talked about resolutions and expectations of 2010. What I thought I'd do is put up a place for you to list some specific things you would like to do/see/taste/etc., and every time you accomplish one put up a pic or something to celebrate it! Try to keep things concrete rather than intangible. I'll start;
Recreation;
- Ski backcountry
- Complete alpine climb with 5th class moves and rope work
- Take a longer (5+ days) outdoors trip
- Find a good group of folks in Vancouver to do the above with
Professional/Educational;
- Get paper published
- Job in field/grad studies
- Matriculate
Personal/family
- Get married (April 3rd!!!)
- Move to Vancouver
- Cook a new, exciting recipe every week or two
Physical/fitness
- Establish workout routine and stick to it every week
- Lose some weight (10 lbs?) prior to wedding
- Climb into the 5.10s
Cheers!

Try not to Matriculate furiously... the friction burns can be uncomfortable.

Okay, what is the "5.10s"? I'm American, if it's not in lbs or even kgs, I don't get it.

Re: Grats on Ding/Goal Fulfilled Thread
The difficulty of rock climbing routes is graded by a couple different systems. Under the system commonly used in North America a 5.10 is a difficult climb but not extremely difficult.

Oh. See I thought it had something to do with that "X stone" weight measure from the UK...

So, if you follow my twitter, you know I just got a call that I have been short-listed for a Molecular Biology Research Internship with Natural Resources Canada. My interview is Thursday.
Ding?
(Also, just got the matriculate joke. Self-facepalm.)

Speaking of weight I've lost about 2 stone since last October. Thats 28 pounds to American types.
Is that a ding?

Unless your anorexic/bulimic, I'm pretty sure that counts as a ding.

Woo ding! And nope, eating less, better foods, cutting out beer (mostly) and light exercise is the win! Still not done slimming though.

Re: Grats on Ding/Goal Fulfilled Thread
At some point I would like to:
* Be published in Nature or Science
* Run a marathon
* Do an Olympic distance triathlon
This sounds a bit like a show called the The Buried Life. Four guys from Victoria (I went to high school with one of them) made a list of a hundred things to do before they die and they set out to do them. Along the way they help other people do things that they wanted to do before they die.

Who doesn't, really?
Anyways, skiing was a bus today. No snow! But I'm hopefully going up-Island in a couple weeks to higher elevations, which should yield better results.

Congratulations.
Though, I was hoping you'd be nervous for a little while longer.

I've been running 30 minutes, 5 days a week for a week and a half now.
I'm pretty stoked with myself.

Re: Grats on Ding/Goal Fulfilled Thread
Well, in terms of my new years resolutions, I've ding'ed the three main ones. That is, to learn knitting, to grow my sideburns back, and to start going to yoga (moksha hot yoga). I'm working on my scarf currently; sideburns are there now; and bumping up to 2x a week yoga classes.
In terms of secondary resolutions, I'm down about 5 lbs since last week. Miles to go, but its a start.
Started at approx. 330lbs, and I'm at 325. Yes I know its way too high, even with a somewhat substantial amount of muscle mass to it. My long-term goal is 220lbs.

I was just going to say that. I am in love love love with that show. It just puts the glee in my heart everytime I watch it. Tv is such crap now, that it's nice to see young, ambitious people go out and make a positive change in the world.

To be honest I ended up getting so nervous that I came back round to boredom and then when I found out about the job I was kinda downbeat about it all.
