Homebrewing on the hardwares - what's your story?

Postby spartanhelmet » 27 Jan 2010, 00:44

If you're not much of a gadget type, homebrew might not take your fancy and you might be in the dark about it. Heck, it's normally misunderstood as just being the art of getting pirated games running on a console.

While it can be for just about anything - linux, games or just because you can - being able to have things run what you please is a bit satisfying. Personally, I want to experiment with the odd hardware found in consoles just now, and that's slowly become possible. I'm typing this on a 360 I got running unsigned code which otherwise was sitting around getting dusty after an RROD fiasco, and the PS3 is seemingly able to get the same treatment. If I bought it, am curious and not looking to pirate*, why not? (*well, the official SDK would be illegal to use if I download it, but that's another issue)

So, I put it to the resident techies of the forum - what hardware have you set about tinkering around with, and how did it go?

let's make it

Set up a homebrew of beer in the bathroom. Went on a trip down south for a week. Came back and found the window in the bathroom blown out and the mirror broken and beer was everywhere.

Well, I use Linux on all my computers. I end up tinkering with the installations in no small way, usually to get the mobile broadband working. :P

On the subject of homebrew, I have used homebrew apps/games on a DS before, but there's a lot of detritus to sort through if you want to find anything good. If you're thinking about homebrewing a PS3, as far as I know the more recent model is no longer Linux-able the way the old one was. So just watch out for that.

Note: in Ireland 'ye' is used as the plural of 'you'. It rather neatly avoids confusion online.

I got the homebrew channel on my wii and spent an hour trying to convince it to play a DVD before giving up and using my roommate's Xbox instead.

I bought an SD card adapter for my DS, I intend to put linux on it, I haven't gotten around to it.

I frequently put linux on PCs.

did you have an air lock on your fermenter?

Shouldn't enough pressure building up stop the beer from fermenting?

Shouldn't fermenters be designed to withstand this pressure in the corner case of a blocked bleed valve?

Pressure won't stop yeast from converting sugar.

Most people usually use rather simple glass or plastic carboys as primary fermenters

I have some homebrew on my PSP. But really only for emulators.
