I already covered this. I responded to this very specific point. If you want an answer, scroll up and read. You are not worth repeating myself.

iwashere33 wrote: I am not atheist or theist

Bull shit.

iwashere33 wrote:if you do beleive in god - why? have you seen christ or something?

I’ve never seen the wind. I have felt it, and I can see its effect on things, but I have never seen the wind itself. Such is God.

iwashere33 wrote: have you found evidence that my 'small mind' hasn't come accross?

Yes. Repeatedly. Nothing that I can present on the internet, and nothing that couldn’t be attributed to other things (a room that’s been trashed with a few spatters of blood, for example, could be evidence of a fight, but if you don’t want to believe there was a fight you could just as easily say “this doesn’t prove their was a fight, it could just have been a drunken party where someone got hurt”), but yes. I have absolutely found evidence. And it is compelling enough to keep me believing.

iwashere33 wrote: have you spoke to god?

Every man who prays speaks to God.

iwashere33 wrote:do you normally hear voices?

Not exactly. But I have gotten answers. To describe the way in which they come is something I’ve never been able to accurately do; the best I can describe it is vividly remembering someone telling you something, but knowing with absolutely certainty that no one ever has.

iwashere33 wrote:no matter what you beleive, trying to force those beliefs on others is exactly against the whole point of democracy, sure the voting system is meant to get unpopular politicians and ideas out of law-making power. but for now it looks as though this particular minister, is trying to bring in a forced and mandatory filter on the internet that will block everything the goverment doesn't like due to "refused classification" guidelines. the big worry is because is something is censored than you don't know it exists. in china where they have been filtering and censoring for years - have even made it illegal to show the 'tank man' image.

1. I think #2 on this page answers this particular part of your post quite nicely.

2. Again, I think you’re over-simplifying the matter. AFAIC, the best a lawmaker can do is try to pass laws that represent the will of the people, and when you get right down to it, the will of the people is really just our collective personal beliefs. I think it’s crap to censor the net. I’ve been rather outspoken on the matter in the past. But regardless of the fact that I disagree with people doing this, I understand their motivations. They’re not evil men, they’re trying to do the right thing, and they believe that this will help curb kiddy porn and child molestation. They’re wrong and should be stopped, but I don’t think it’s simply a matter of some Bible-thumper who doesn’t want ayone seeing the itty-bitty-titty-committee.

3. What I find interesting about all this is that his goal here seems to only be filtering porn that is or appears to be child-porn. If his motivations were purely to push his own religion on others, I would think that he’d attempt something a little broader.

I think the point here is that nobody actually really judges you for your faith. Its more that people judge you if you're a dick about it.

*sigh*

You people and your crispy bacon.

Isn't it obvious that soggy bacon is best? You get more flavour out of it. And I hold that maple bacon is not bacon. If it doesn't taste like pig fat, it has no right to be called bacon. I mean, seriously. If you want it to taste like pancakes, make pancakes. Don't ruin perfectly good bacon.

Also, crispy bacon is Satans revenge on a callous world. Soggy bacon is the Lords delight given form.

Jumping over religion talks...

Really? censoring small breast? I guess that will make it easier for these government types is Australia to find the big tittied porn sites. You see, they just don't know how to use a search engine to look up their porn so they are going to just do the easy thing and make anything that doesn't get their jollies off illegal. In the rest of the world we consider that ass backwards. In Australia they consider that easier than typing... mate.

So what does this really say? Well, any guy who marries a woman with small breast must be a pedophile. Looks like Kira Knightly won't have anyone to go to prom with! At least not in australia. What I really want to know is what is the actual problem in Australia that the bureaucrats are trying to distract the populace from? I mean is porn in any form really sanctified by any religion? Well, there is kamma sutra stuff but what ever. The point being is that this is like saying that Pictures of drugs are now illegal because someone might try to smoke the image. If they are that mess up in the head then there are other problems at hand.

Then sign me up for hell! I loves my bacon crispy. It is delightful, almost sinfully so.

Just to be clear, this is something very disturbing about that little girl, even though she may have some bacon.

I agree 100%. That crap pisses me off at least as much as it does you; because every time I see it I know that the next time I encounter one of the iwashere33's of the world, they're gonna use it as an excuse for their own small mindedness. Not to mention that the idea that those assholes have the unmitigated BALLS to use the lord as an instrument in their little hate drama fills me with RAGE.

"Love thine neighbor as you would love thyself."
"Love thine enemy as you would love thine neighbor."

I'm not seeing a whole lot of room for hate there. For God's sake, as the Romans were slowly torturing Christ to death, he used his last breaths to ask God to forgive them. How the hell can someone really think that he's up there saying "you know, when they arrested me, beat me half to death, made walk in humiliation through the streets carrying a cross that weighed as much as me, then nailed me to it and watched me die a slow, painful death...I could get past that. But I freaking HATE those dudes that hump each other."

That being said, I doubt the things that little girl's parents are filling her head with are all that better than what the WBC members teach their kids.

I know I said that I wasn't going to post in this thread, anymore, but I wanted to say something.

I'm sorry. To everyone. Some months ago, near to when I first signed up to the forums, I got involved in a discussion that turned to religion vs. atheism. It got very bitter and heated.

Listening to this guy has reminded me what a militant atheist shithead I sounded like. Spewing condescension from a high horse that was jammed so far up my own arse I could play guitar on my vocal chords. I've realised since what a dick move it was to act so high and mighty, and I'm sorry.

The argument either fizzled out or got locked, I can't remember, but it never got resolved, and I never apologised. And I felt really bad about that. For all his faults, this guy has at least reminded me how not to act.

So to all the forumites, I'm sorry I was huffing so many dongs. I'm better now.

For wraith. A big Thank You, for actually being the first person i have ever talked to that has given me a straight answer on why they believe in god. i have even asked my dad (a card-carrying mormon) why he believes in god and he couldn't tell nearly as clearly as that. so yes, that was a big help for me to understand where you are coming from.

and all religion aside. the big problem i have with the proposed mandatory filter isn't that it could be use to stop child porn (which i think it won't, if china can't stop news getting out under the strictest censorship practices in the world, then how are we meant to stop child porn coming in. it would need a single person monitoring each website to check for 'refused classification' material) What's wrong with it, is what will be stopped. everything from cartoons to drawings, and even sites dealing with euthanasia and abortion - inlcuding some wikipedia pages regarding that information. And now, anything where the people in the movie appear to be underage 16/18, regardless if they are actually consenting adults, and never mind even if the film was made in another country, stephen conroy want to restrict the entire internet to try and be a goverment parent for everyone. I am not entirely sure what can be done, we could wait for the next election and vote Labour out of office (assuming, the majority feel the same way), but i figure maybe sending a letter off to him might help just in case the filter gets put in before they leave office. as i recall it took almost 3 years to remove all the workplace laws Howard changed.

Wraith, while I respectfully disagree with your devotion to God and all Godly things, I have to show props for it. You may not be the only devout person I've encountered, but you're the only one who hasn't pissed me off about it. In truth, every side, be it atheism, Christianity, or anything else, has guys like iwashere33, and I hope you won't judge all atheists on the kinds that babble about it. It sounds like you've dealt with similar situations before.

iwashere33, there's not much I can say that hasn't been said. You keep pretending you weren't offending anyone. Now, it's perfectly okay that you don't think you offended anyone, but it is undeniable that people were offended, and I think that alone warrants an apology, especially if you claim it was unintentional. Honestly, though, you're just making other atheists look bad.
Just call me Dylan. It's easier to pronounce.

Okay, for everyone I AM SORRY.

i fully apologise if anything i ever said offended you, it's not my intention to make enemies of anyone. if i meet someone with a different opinion, normally i would like to know why they have different ideas and ask them what they think of mine. in completely peaceful terms that respect other people's ideas, it's the actions based on ideas that i feel need to be examined further.

and for the record, i am not an atheist or in a group that does anything for or against any god, and i don't speak for anyone else but me.

Perfect. Thank you. This is EXACTLY what you should have been saying all along. I agree with every word of it. You stuck to the relevant issue and didn't insult anyone. More of this, please.

Wartjr - thanks, man. Don't worry; I'm not judging anyone based on iwashere (though he seems to have chilled out finally). I don't want people judging me on those idiots that stand on the road and scream "God hates fags" and I'm not about to judge aethiests because of the militants.

I go away for a couple days and a thread about how batshit Australia is turns into a batshit argument about religion?

Maybe it was all the feces flying back and forth, but I haven't seen anyone ask the really important question regarding the matter, which is that how exactly is the Australian government going to determine the minimum size of breasts that are allowed into the country? Is there going to be a commitee, and how would one be qualified to make the decision?

Also what kind of mad freak eats soggy bacon? Crispy bacon is clearly the one true saviour! (Please note, as in the light of recent events in this thread I think one must clarify this in the clearest possible terms available, that the statement involving bacon is not a matter I would wish to discuss any further, especially in this enviroment of hostility.)

Yeah, that's half the problem. as far as i have been able to find out it's being put down to 'the appearence of being underage' which is pretty much as subjective as it gets.

there is a bit of a reply from them here.

Well clearly they're so serious about protecting the children that they will have to form a committee, made up of the people who drafted the law, who will have to personally examine the breast size of potential porn starlets. You know...just to be sure they're of age.
