Canadian Home GOLD, Biznatches!

Postby epocalypse » 14 Feb 2010, 18:46

Men's Moguls end the drought. Pretty awesome, congrats, my north found friends! Any one else watching the games right now?

Also, as someone who is not Canadian, I found it strange how hard I was rooting for some Canadian gold...

Now, I'm a dual citizen American and Portuguese, with half Italian ancestory genetically, And I usually root in order of PortAmerItalia, but Portugal doesn't do much in the winter olympics.

That said, world cup later this year, WOOO!

I had great timing with my break at work tonight and got to see it. People at work thought I was crazy. I was jumping around and yelling "That's how we do, All day!!!". I guess I got carried away but yeah it was so satisfying.

Look, I've got three choices, usually: Portugal, America, and Italy. Portugal, of course, has only a single athlete this year... But world cup is coming later this and I'm getting pumped for it.

Congrats Canadians! Canadia finally wins a gold medal on home soil! or home snow... whatever.

But yeah, when the American was skiing down I was chanting the old U-S-A, U-S-A. and when he got second and the canadian came up I was chanting CAN-A-DA, CAN-A-DA. And then french guy came up, and it was just tense. I wanted Canada to win gold, and thankfully they did.

Managed to turn the TV on just before it happened last night. Very exciting, and I can't think of a nicer guy for it to happen to, either.

... Although, given this is the Canadian Olympic team we're talking about, they're probably all nice!

And, as someone tweeted last night, appropriate that is a bilingual member of our country who did it.

I did think that the Canadians would have been not only excited that Bilodeau won, but also that he beat Begg-Smith

It was our best Canadian vs Australia's best Canadian in the moguls and our's won. Second gold in the ladies snowboard cross, looks like Canada has got the ball rolling now.

We had two. One didn't qualify for the finals, but the underdog of the pair came out at the end to win it. The preliminary runs were pretty funny if you were watching CTV's cast because every time the announcer made a comment the racer went down, usually pretty hard. I'm thinking she had a button or something.

Dude, seriously though, did anyone catch the pwning that the women's US hockey team dealt Russia? 13-0 shut out. Can't wait to see them and Canada come head to head, and I'm hoping for a similar clash in Men's. This reminds me why I love hockey.

Two swedish golds as well. We obviously figure that either we go for gold or we don't go at all as has been shown so far.

Not to be outdone either, Dale Begg-Smith (Torino 2006's Gold winner in Moguls from Australia) is actually Canadian-born! He got Silver this time, which I'm totally fine with! I've gotta say, I was cheering for Canada. I still am. Anyone Canadian or Australian onry. America needs to sit the fuck down already.

Actually, there's a Canadian female speed-skater who won gold or at least a medal who represents Canada but was born in Melbourne, Australia. Canadian father, Australian mother.

So I think we're more like sister-countries than originally thought! Even so, well done to Alexandre Bilodeau! He deserved the gold.

As for Womens Snowboard Halfpipe, HELL YEAH TORAH BRIGHT! =D

Hey now, I root for you guys and the canadians. Sure, America takes home a ridiculous amount of bling, but that doesn't mean we can't be friends, right?

Also, don't tell anyone this (they might revoke my citizenship), but I really hope Canada gets the gold in hockey.
