After the joy of a wedding and the adoption of a baby came arguments that couldn't be resolved, leading Angelique Naylor to file for divorce. That left her fighting both the woman she married in Massachusetts and the state of Texas, which says a union granted in a state where same-sex marriage is legal can't be dissolved with a divorce in a state where it's not.

A judge in Austin granted the divorce, but Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is appealing the decision. He also is appealing a divorce granted to a gay couple in Dallas, saying protecting the "traditional definition of marriage" means doing the same for divorce.

A state appeals court is scheduled to hear arguments in the Dallas case on Wednesday.

I think this pretty much sums up my whole attitude towards the current "bible versus gay marriage" stuff in the states.

At this point, I'd say it's not good enough. It's arguing about semantics of a word, but no matter how you slice it, it's still one group denying another group the ability to live and legally define their lives the way they want.

If a gay couple enter into a civil union (which would otherwise be called marriage) which confers upon them all the same rights and responsibilities that they would have were they "married", then they're married, and arguing against it being actually called marriage is just being obnoxious

because if you don't go all the way, you are systemically condoning the prejudice.

You either go whole hog, and grant everyone perfect equality, or you're part of the problem.

Saying "you can have all the benefits and legal elements of marriage, but you're not allowed to call it "marriage" because this group of people claims to know what marriage is better than you and they don't want you to have it" is just supporting that kind of backwards, bigoted behavior, and trying to polish it up like a good thing.

Also, as for teh marriage thing; I would compare it to some of the fundemental islamistic countries where women are forced to be behind a specific wall in the mosque. Sure they hear the service just like the men does, but they aren't allowed to see what the men sees.
