After a frenzied burst of reading "Ghost Story" has literally brought my fervor to a screeching halt.
Easily one of the weakest books in the dresden files. Absolutely everything so far it boring. There is not any sort of grounding to make the book vaguely interesting.

Worming through 7 Billion Needles inspired a hunt for Hal Clement's Needle. Gripping stuff if different beans to the manga.

It's rather hard to top the previous, Changes. He has to build a new story arc so it's got to build upwards again. But yeah, that one was a bit weak in comparison -- think of a rollercoaster heading back upward on the second peak of the ride. Butcher's latest, Cold Days, is pretty good. Like usual, lots of quick changes in scenery and crazy end-of-world stuff happening.

I'm about a third of the way into C. Cargill's Dreams and Shadows. It's a modern-set fairytale and/or urban fantasy.

The story for the moment revolves around two boys, both taken from their homes by supernatural forces. The first, Ewan, was snatched from a loving family and replaced with a changeling; a sort of emotional vampire that utterly hates the child it replaces. The second child, Colby, accidentally tricks a djinn into taking him on a tour of the magical side of the world -- he thinks it'll be a grand adventure, while the djinn is sure it will end in tears.

Intermixed between the chapters are some extracts from a natural scientist's research notes into the various fair folk species, with peculiar and entertaining anecdotes tangentially relating to the plot. It really helps you get to know the various creatures and throws their actions into interesting lights.

Rather good so far. It's a dark fantasy -- so expect lots of people dying in creative, grisly ways.

The ending of Ghost Story is actually really interesting, when the important stuff comes up it kind of floors you.

And for when you get to Cold Days: Santa Claus. SANTA. CLAUS.

I finally decided it wasn't worth my time and read the summery.
It seems like Butcher wanted a few more months of vacation, but Penguin put him back to work... And thus Ghost Story.

Oh well now I'm churning through A Song of Ice and Fire.
Page 350 of A clash of kings!
Also I bought the cookbook because, omg food.

Wha- awwww! No! The end of Ghost Story is super important to understanding events from Changes, and understanding big changes in the character of . Molly . and some of the others!

Continuing my London-set urban fantasy kick (just read Kate Griffin's Stray Souls) with The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers. Ancient conspiracies? Sorcerers? Egyptian mythology? Time travel? Creepy clowns? This is MY BAG, man.

I haven't, but some quick googling has revealed that this guy's stuff is most definitely up my street. Going on my reading list for sure. Thanks for the tip-off :)

Reading a clash of kings, and just read a page of sailing euphemisms for sex. It was worth a couple of laughs. :D

Have you read "On Stranger Tides"? Tim Powers practically invented the entire Pirate Voodoo genre with that book, and it was the influence behind all kinds of things including Monkey Island... (And oh so sad to see the book 'Adapted' into a horrible movie for a series based on a theme park ride.)

Lord of Light, Roger Zelazny.

I've read it three times. It might just be the best book ever written.

Secretist was good, i am a big fan of flavor! I am churning my way back through all the Riftwar Cycle by Raymond E Feist at the moment, all 28 books of it before the publication of the final book (probably) in May. I'm really enjoying jumping back into a series i really liked when i first read it a couple of years ago and I would heartily recommend at the very least the 1st 3 books.

Had a plump at both Thomas hardy and dickens, on advice from my parents. Couldn't stand the language, so went back to rereading 127 hours. So much more relaxing.

I am also going through the riftwar because of the last book being released this summer.
I have come to "At the gates of Darkness" which is the first book in my rereading that i have not read before as it had not been released the last time i read the series
