HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD (Discussion Thread)

Postby Kyogissun » 04 Jul 2010, 20:27

Were this any other series, I promise you I wouldn't be making a thread...

But this is Highschool of the Dead people. Zombies, guns, action, gore, violence, blood, DID I MENTION FREAKING ZOMBIES IN AN ANIME?! And it's all accompanied by the most kickass opening for an anime EVER

But it gets better people... Because The Anime Network is simulcasting the show. That's right, starting at 1 am EST (And at 12am EST every sunday henceforth) The Anime Network will begin their simulcast and the first episode is available to ALL registered users. Episodes 2-12 however, will most likely require a subscription.

To me though, this was the kind of thing I was WAITING for to get a subscription with these guys.

Also, I'm pretty confident the site is accessible to canadian viewers as well. As for making a subscription if you're canadian, try checking this thread it seems that there is a very easy way to sign up.

So yeah... This show is guaranteed to be awesome. The manga it's adapted from is FANTASTIC and with the artwork spot on to matching its detail, it seems maybe the only thing being added to the anime is... Well, extra fanservice, but one can learn to get past that.

So there you go, watch the show... And don't let me be the ONLY one here watching it.

No, sorry. Hellsing wins that hands down. Hell, it wins on music alone.

Don't be cruel, vibration. Revolu-fantasy.

Okay, so the opening being the best is subjective but you have to admit, it's pretty awesome.

If we're being pedantic, I think you meant Ouran High Host Club.

I admit I will prolly watch this show sometime.

Though I can't believe I found a show more fan servicy than Tenjou Tenge.

GAA! My eyes! ...No, I still meant Hellsing. The HSotD trailer reminded me of it & now I'm tempted to dig it out & watch a few episodes. Love the soundtrack.

Very good first episode, pretty much just covered only the first chapter but I didn't expect any further.

Okay, look, all of you can say whatever you want, this comic was fine, by the way, but we all know that the greatest anime opening, if not the greatest opening ever, is the one, the only,

Cowboy Bebop

You charlatans.

the only other acceptable answer is Ghost In the Shell 2nd gig.

but yeah zombies + high schoolers isn't really all that interesting.

I really love the manga that this is based on. I'm going to have to see if I can get the screening permissions to get this shown on Friday the 13th at Anime Evolution...

Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Opening plz.

Which I always thought was amazing in that it's almost completely unrelated to the actual anime.

That and the anime is so wtf-worthy it's mesmerizing.

I'll probably end up watching this too, though I must admit I am growing tired of gratuitous animated boobage. I know, I'm crazy; but I honestly started to lose interest as the half-naked-woman count increased.

I hope Sentai Filmworks gives you guys the okay on it, it would probably be a great addition, though I'd say you should probably have it as a late in the day or 18+ only airing, maybe try and get the uncensored episodes out of them. :P

I just watched episode 1! SOOOO GOOD!!!!!

My only gripe is the pointless pantie shots. I mean, I like pantie shots as much as the next guy, but they were a little overtly gratuitous.

I can't wait for episode 2!! :D

Graham wrote:The manga was pretty heavy on fan service, if I recall.

Heavy? Yes. Frequent? Ehhh, not so much. I mean yes, there are obligatory mentions like 'naked apron' and 'orgy bus' in the manga, but when the artist is... Well, a hentai manga artist (Pen name is Inazuma, according to upside down /a/) it's expected.

But yeah, the fanservice is still healthfully balanced out by the blood and gore so to me, it's merited to some degree.

@Dolphin: I too cannot wait for episode 2, seeing Saya, Kouta and Saeko get their deserved screentime will be enjoyable.

Personally though, I'm on the 'this show will get 2 seasons' bandwagon, based on amount of chapters, the rate at which they're covering scenes in the anime and the fact that this is probably the biggest money maker for Madhouse in a while...

In addition to the fact that supposedly they're being bought out by warner brothers, hence the Supernatural the Animation announcement. So they would PROBABLY get enough funding that they COULD do a second season of HSotD if they want.

Also, I will 'never' call it HOTD, that's just... awkward to me... HSotD also flows off the tongue better, like Ayche-Ess-Oh-Tee-Dee.

And an update from me...

Anime Evolution will be receiving a screening disc of the episodes, and we have permission to show the anime at our convention! I'm actually a little surprised we were able to pull it off this close to the convention!

If you guys were able to do this then I have to imagine Otakon's got the okay on it as well, what with Masao Murayama attending and being the guy in charge of madhouse and such, it would seem odd to NOT have it their and basically plug their biggest show in a while like crazy.

So I read all the manga that I could possibly read and I have to say I really do dig the story. I like Hirano the most, I think most do though. The characters are fairly well rounded (Hur) and some of the issues that are dealt with are fairly realistic as they play it out. I approve and I can't wait to see episode 2

For what's been shown in this thread, Hellsing is still the best IMO...

another opening I like

Legend of Black Heaven on strength of the song...
the heart knows no greater tragedy than a breath that begins in love and ends in grief...
