Want to cure your homosexuality? There's an App for that!
Re: This thread is so gay
I don't get why people feel that homosexuality is an illness and can be "cured". Thank *insert person here* that they puled the app, it's wrong that they were targeting youth with this app.

Re: This thread is so gay
The thing is, if there is a genetic predisposition to homosexuality, then there are going to be people who are going to want to see genetic modification become reality, so they can make sure their babies are straight. If it's a curable illness, there are going to be people who want a cure created now so that they can force their children to be normal.
Personally, I believe that sexuality is not something that can be modified away, but something that is unexplainable and abstract, yet concrete. Levitical law was written after the Jews were released from slavery and forced to survive in the desert for 40 years, so saying "men can't bang men" was more an attempt to bolster their population by making it a Godly decree. It's like they did with kosher dietary laws. They would not allow certain foods to be eaten, because it had a higher risk rate of food-borne illness (plus lack of refrigeration made keeping food safe nearly impossible). So there were some gay Jews who had to only sleep with women, but they never stopped wanting to sleep with men. Saying it is a sin to do any of these things was just their way to make sure the race survived.
This is my opinion, though. Fact of the matter is, there are other reasons that laws and rules are made the way they are, but my point is that just because it was once a law or a belief doesn't mean that it is infallible.

If there is any significant movement to use genetic engineering to their offspring straight, once it becomes viable, then I'd be very tempted to make mine gay. Of course, that would be just as ethically wrong....but would it be any more so than me having kids in the first place?

Re: This thread is so gay
People who hate LGBTs, or think different sexuality is some illness, are bad people, no question about it, no misunderstanding, no differing opinion, no anything like that, they are simply bad people. They chose to give into the irrationality of a simple reptilian brain, not filtering out such nonsense with their higher brain functionality. Just bad, useless, people. Just like all bigots. You know how I know differing sexuality isn't an illness? I HAVE AN ILLNESS! AND IT IN NO WAY IS SIMILAR TO ME BEING BISEXUAL! YES I AM ANGRY! PEOPLE LIKE THIS DON'T DESERVE TO SHARE THE SAME SPECIES AS ME! AS ANY OF US! GOD DAMMIT WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS WORLD!?!
...
...
Yes I'm probably overreacting, but I DON'T CARE! I KNOW PEOPLE LIKE THIS, AND THEY ARE NOTHING BUT SCUM! SCUM WITH NO HUMANITY TO SPEAK OF, JUST HATE, HATE AND BIGOTRY! ... I need to go lie down...

People are wrong you know.
You _can_ fight fire with fire.
You both end up suffocating yourselves to death, is all.

Well, the rational part of my brain has kicked back in, and I understand my statement may have been a little... erm... counterproductive.... Sorry about that, rough day and all...

It's ok.
They are dickweeds, I know. But fire runs on vitrol (HA! not only is it a pun, it's true, and CONTINUING MY METAPHOR), and your post was full of it.
The issue is, they have the bigotry disease.

Yeah,
I think knowing and regularly conversing with someone who's self-proclaimed mission in life is to rid the world of all peoples of different sexualities is messing with my head...
Edit: I should have said "The closest human equivalent to a Dalek" in there, the writing part of my brain is full of fuck right not as well...

Can we please work on a cure for that first? That way, we wouldn't need one for teh gayness.

Well, they've done it with fruit flies, and the bigots are all just waiting for them to say they can "cure" mammals as well.
On an unrelated note: I don't know if people not still in high school do this or not, but Day of Silence is on Friday, and I'm super excited. I've been entrusted with a bag of approximately 800 rainbow ribbon-y pin things to pass out.

Oh man, I'd lost track of it! Gah, I don't have class on Fridays, so I can't do anything that way, and I do have work and explaining it to my employer won't do anything. Bah.
Re: This thread is so gay
Day of Silence?
Also I am on half term break so I could be silent; but it wouldn't do anything i don't think.

Re: This thread is so gay
I understand the idea behind day of silence, but damn, is it ever impractical. I've got work to do, I've got to talk. I don't think getting all GLBT-supporters fired from their jobs will do a bit of good.
Plus, the idea that being silent will promote the message that GLBT harassment is not tolerated seems backward to me. Isn't silence what most anti-gay people want? For gay people to shut up and go away? Plus, how are you supposed to explainthe cause/why you're being silent if you're being silent?
Wouldn't it make more sense to have a day of loudness?
Whatever.
In other news: went with a friend to a clinic in the city to get an STD battery this morning, mostly to see how it was done. I had no absolutely no reason to be nervous, but boy was I ever. Started getting light headed and sweating a lot. It was my first time getting blood drawn, and I've got a slight phobia of needles, so that was probably why.
And they have rapid HIV tests now, they'll tell you your status in 30 minutes, which is pretty impressive. Negative, of course. Have to wait two weeks for the rest of the results. So, yeah. That's my story for today.

Yeah, I knew I was clean, but I was still freaking out, though I recognized it was highly illogical to do so. Stupid fleshy biology!

Everytime, and the people who are there are never like, why you're there... They usually look like they've been dragged through the gutter a few times and are coming in because they know some things wrong. The one here is quite dreary and I guess meant to make you fear it because I certainly dont want to go back.
I remain completely clean! Though with my personality I dont have much to worry about. I barely shag as it is, and like I'm gonna do it with some random person... lol

I support a day of being loud myself.
Ok; GAY CHALLENGE (also for the hets but we're in the gay thread dammit):
Read this thread from start to finish, I have done this two of three times and each time it makes me have more of an understanding for all of the gay forumites here.
it's just a thought but it's really fun to go through ten pages per night.
(you can disregard this post it was just something that I do and thought you lot might want to do, it could bring some old discussions back or w/e)

I may at some point, but I just wanted to share this first. My wife has been making octopus hats for people, so she made one for herself as well. She calls him "Starkey the Gay Octopus". There's a reason I love her.

Re: This thread is so gay
Starkey is amazing. I want a gay octopus hat. I would probably wear it every day if I had one.
Dan, I probably won't go back and read all of this at least for now. I don't know where you find the time.
Also, amusing(?) day of silence anecdote: I was handing out ribbons and talking cards with one of the organizers of the event, and a group of about six girls comes over to eat their lunch on the counter/booth thing we're using. One of the girls says something about "stupid queers." I'm rolling my eyes internally when I hear another girl say, in an extremely conspicuous stage whisper: "don't say that so close to them, they might get offended! Isn't today like their holiday or something?" She then proceeds to come up and take a ribbon.
