I've heard two Daft Punk songs on the Muzak at work...

I've always been irritated at people who talk smack about Final Fantasy X-2 just because it has female main characters and features "dress-up" as a core mechanic. I always thought they were missing the point and getting caught up on surface-level details.

I actually played X-2. Turns out it's kinda garbage completely independent of those issues. I'm not sure how to feel about that.

(Apologies in advance to anyone who thinks X-2 is the best Final Fantasy game ever made or something. I know they're out there, somehow.)

On an unrelated note, people keep telling me how I look like either Mark Zuckerberg or Jesse Eisenberg (the guy that played him in Social Network). I like to think it's a good thing, or at least they seem to think it's a good thing, or they wouldn't bring it up so unabashedly? But I personally think they look hideous.

I've seen pics of you; you look FAR better than either of them.

That said, 'beauty' is a very subjective thing; I imagine it's intended as a compliment...heck, Henry Kissinger was actually considered a sex symbol Back In Tha Day. :|

I think they are only saying it because of the hair? I honestly don't think you look like either of them :)

I am seriously considering a career outside astronomy.

In a specific field, or are you just feeling the need for a change?

The number of people looking for jobs exceeds the number of jobs available. It is a question of how much I am willing to give up having a life in exchange for career in astronomy. You have to be a nomad for up to a decade, taking up one to three year contracts in different cities around the world. Part of this is also a feeling that I have not been putting in enough work applying to have a decent chance at a job.

If what my new boss said carries any weight, I might be on track to head a kitchen in a year or two. Second day on the job and the chef mentions he's looking for someone to replace him, followed up by asking me to come up with an appetizer to put on the superbowl menu using what we already have.

While this is awesome, I've been telling myself for 3 years that I don't want to head a kitchen. Maybe I can think about it, and slowly work towards it. I'd rather not head a kitchen, but heading the pub kitchen might not be so bad.

Writing emails to a friend who is far away is a challenge.
You want to try and create what resembles as close to live-action chatty as you can. But you realise that sort of talkiness doesn't work in e-mail.

You end up waffling and have half the email of fundamentally pointless crap. You lack being able to see the face of the receiving to tell when you're rabbiting on too much. Or you lack them kindly interrupting to say "please be quite, it's my time to speak".

So you strip all the waffle out and you may end up with basically a list of information you want to share and a list of information you're requesting. You then have to inject personality back into the email.

It's nice sending it off. You feel that connecting thread still exists. But you wonder why you got so worked up over sending that email. You then smile because it came from a good place and not a bad place.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about rambling. This person wants to hear from you, and if you're talking too much about one thing, they can always skim a little once they have the gist. But odds are, it feels way longer to write than it will be to read.

It's been just over a week since I got these earbuds... And one side is already dead. And I know for once it's not me, because I haven't put any strain on them, and the one side died pretty much over a half an hour.

I'm happy that I got the warranty on these, but very annoyed it was necessary.

I'm also unsure of their English skills. I didn't realise his English was bad when we used to interact in person, since we could use body language, sign language and poetic use of words to express what we meant.
I think I worry that if I ramble on a lot, he might not read/understand the key points of the email.

He uses Google translate to assist with understanding and replying, but I don't want to encumber him with WORDS I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
I sort of get a panic feeling when I see a wall of Spanish. I sort of imagine he might get the same when he sometimes receive my wall-of-text emails.

I've spent three micro paragraphs making a single point. You can see how massive my emails might become.

Ah, well fair enough, given that aspect of the situation it makes sense to not send a huge amount and give him a lot of work to do translating and trying to understand it. But I do think it's worth writing as much as you need to express your points, rather than distilling it all down to the most basic details. Because it's quite possible that some of the meaning could be lost in translation, a bit of repetition and ensure the right information comes through is not a bad thing.

There's just a bit of frustration for me that it seems impossible for us to talk in real time due to geography and time.

It upsets me when there are an odd number of chocolate buttons in the packet, like one of them is going to be lonely at the end.

Chocolate sure is special though.

A ménage à trois of chocolate? That could possibly work.

I'm going to have to start counting everything before I eat it. This is how OCD begins. The abyss gazes also into you.

Eat the whole packet all at once. A party in your gullet.
