Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
I know it's been out for a while, but Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' is a pretty big album, for both myself and the music world, so I wanted to hear your oppinions on it.
As a massive AF fanboy, I personally love it. It's such a well-sculpted album, and all the songs connect together really well and seem to interlock. It may not have some of the best individual songs of their career, but as an album, I think it's one of their best for being such a rounded experience.
And Sprawl II... 'Nuf said...

You're back! Yay!
I haven't heard the album though. Time to get my pirate on.

Yes, it's wrong. But I spend my money on other things.

That's certainly the most original defence for pirating I've seen...

I want to take this album home, cook it a nice dinner, enjoy a fine bottle of wine with it, and make sweet love to it until the sun comes up, and I bring it breakfast in bed.

I've heard it before. I've heard it stated better, as "I spend my money on other things, and thus I help the economy by my piracy."
It's bullshit.
With the caveat that piracy is not theft (though fraud isn't either), consider this: "I shoplift all my groceries, therefore I spend my money on other things, and so it all works out".

No, you miss my point.
I wasn't defending it.
It IS illegal and morally wrong and all that jazz.
My logic here is: 'I don't want to spend money on that, and I can get it for free. So I won't spend money on it.'

Re: Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
I listened to preview clips (30 seconds) on a shopping website and based on that alone, I actually hated it (If it gets uploaded onto Spotify I would relighten to them full length).
I just didn't hear anything as "Epic" as previous songs they had on their other albums; Neibourhood #1, #2, #3, Wake Up, Rebellion (Lies), Black Mirror, Keep the Car Running and Intervention. It sounded roughly the same. I've discussed this in my thread to which this album inspired it.
I'm not saying it's a bad album. I'm saying my music taste apparently has changed. I seem to dislike all current 'Indie' music now.
It means nothing to me if the album is alot more sculptured and wholesome. I see albums as an economic way to legally aquire a bunch of songs I like. All albums I rip onto my laptop I delete the songs I don't quite like. Except for Serk tankian and Muse however...

Re: Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
I bought it because it was this band I'd always heard about but never actually heard, and someone pointed out it was $4 for the album on Amazon, which seemed like a reasonable price.
I downloaded it. I listened to it. It was music.
Nothing wrong with it, though I certainly didn't have the same reaction as Matt. I'll listen to it, but my socks remain firmly in place.

Re: Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Two much frownin', not enough Arcade Firin'!
And I forgot to mention it, but I think that the main aspect of the album can't really compare to the other albums from Arcade Fire is in Win Butler's vocals, as I don't think he gets overly emotional nearly as much as he did on the previous albums. Obviously the other elements of the album make up for this, and I'd still try to find a better way of repaying it for it's awesome than even Matt's method, but the points where he gets to Neighbourhood 2 levels of anguish are few and far between.

You can listen to one of the tracks off the new album here.
It is on my list of music to buy while I am here in Canada.

I am yet to see why everyone showers the Arcade Fire with love, money and love all the time.

Re: Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
I dislike Arcade Fire almost as much as Muse and Fiest. I think I have the exact opposite in music taste as Matt, and it's inevitable.
I don't like their old albums, and I don't like their new one Sorry.

It's nice to see some shared love for Sprawl II. A very different album to the previous two offerings, but one that takes Arcade Fire's music in a novel, and not unpleasant direction. Very, very pleasant.

SO. FUCKING. GOOD.
Sprawl II's amazing. City With No Children is probs my fave song off the album though currently. I need to listen to it more though to definitively pick my top songs. It changes the more you listen to an album I find.

I barely heard the album in Matt's car but I really, actually dig "City With No Children".
