Actually wouldn't that be a sex test, since gender is the largely psychological/societal construct of what one "perceives" themselves to be?

As far as I'm aware, the two words are interchangable. But then I never took psychology. Did a module on "the psychology of religion" in A Level Philosophy, but other than that, nada.

Most of the time they are interchangeable, but particularly with transgendered people, that's not always the case. There's a locked thread of mine somewhere that had a lengthy discussion no the topic.

Ah, but since the subject is also being assigned the task of observer, wouldn't their percieved gender STILL be accurate? Simply the act of looking down at one's own nethers isn't going to invalidate one's opinion of self.

The key is to get the 'testee' to also BE the 'tester', so they really just say what they already believe (if not necessarily consciously) - the 'crotch check' is just simply a catalyst to trigger the self-evaluation.

It's like my method of making arbitrary decisions; I flip a coin-

WAIT - hold on, I'm not finished...

what I do when I'm confronted with a pair of equally-desirable choices, and am stumped, is to assign each choice to the side of a coin, then flip the coin...

...and if I WANT to go 'best two out of three', I know what I REALLY prefer. :)

Example:

I could have a grilled sandwich for lunch later, or I could make a pot of macaroni. Both have ingredients in sufficient supply, both are equally appealing to me, and I have no real time constraints, or any other factors which preclude one or the other.

So say I say "Heads the sandwich, tails the mac" and flip.

Whatever it comes up as isn't the point, whether I want to try again IS.

Say it comes up tails, and I immediately think "best two out of three" - that tells me that, when it comes down to it I WANT the sandwich. :)

Or if it's tails and I'm FINE WITH THAT, it still tells me my mind.

I see your point, however provoking self-evaluation is a dangerous game. It is prone to causing confusion in the subject, which can lead to a false conclusion. This can be especially problematic when the subject, as they often do, takes cues from the testing environment to influence their decisions. The phrasing of the test parameters, for example, can produce opposite results, especially when dealing with sex vs gender.

So someone who is biologically and physically male, but identifies as a woman, could potentially take that test, and due to misunderstanding the test parameters, respond with "male" (their sex), while still firmly identifying as a woman (their gender). As Mimm declared the test to be "100% infallible", this is a problem.
