Doctor Who
Re: Doctor Who
If it is a Time War story, what the hell are the Zygons doing in it?

Re: Doctor Who
I think they'll find Doctor 10 and Rose dealing with Zygons. I think the Zygons are 'cameo'. That's my guess.

Re: Doctor Who
I think they will reveal that the 12 regenerations rule only applies if Daleks cant climb stairs.

Re: Doctor Who
A rumour flew around a while back that the way they'll get out of the '12 regeneration rule' by someone else taking up the 'mantle' of The Doctor.
As the Doctor said, his name isn't important. It's the title. It's a promise.

I really hope they don't do that.

Re: Doctor Who
Me too.. I'd rather the hard to explain why he magically has more regenerations
Re: Doctor Who
Keep in mind that they only introduced the restriction because they needed a motivation for the Master. Literally from the moment we knew about the twelve-regeneration limit we also knew that the Time Lords could raise the limit. We also know that somehow the Master did get more regenerations, since we saw him change from the Derek Jacobi incarnation into the John Simm one.
Maybe having River simply give him all of her regenerations was enough?

Might be cool to have the doctor's daughter take over? (Nope, won't forget about her)

Re: Doctor Who
I'd like Joss Whedon to contribute to Doctor Who myself. But he seems occupied with Avengers 2.
Yes, he's not a scientist. But he embraced the occult in Buffy The Vampires slayer. Anyway, Doctor Who isn't hard Sci-Fi. Perhaps he could write an episode in the same theme as The Satan Pit.

Then there was the line in Five Doctors where the Master was promised a "complete new life cycle" which I took to mean a new set of regenerations. And in Trial of a Time Lord the Doc was required to sign over his remaining incarnations to the Valeyard in the event of his death.
I've never figured out how it was supposed to work
Re: Doctor Who
Yes, exactly, Geoff! I was just pointing out that this wasn't a retcon; since the moment we first head that a limit existed we've also heard that the limit can be lifted.
I've never figured out how it was supposed to work either, but I think that's how BBC wants it.

Re: Doctor Who
regeneration energy has been shown to be able to be passed around on-screen a couple times even just in modern Who, although from what I've seen it can only go Time Lord to Time Lord (Doctor 10 into his chopped-off hand, River 3 into Doctor 11) so either River reviving 11 gave him her remaining regens or he's going to encounter some Time Lord technology that can give him more.
I'd be against "passing on the name" to a new character, as it would remove the core of him now being quasi-all-knowing and ancient.
As for the Master, presumably every time the Time Lords brought him back to life it was with the regular compliment of 12 regens. As when John Simms Master died in 10s arms (before being brought back again for 10s finale), it was clearly shown to be the Master's choice to not regenerate and let himself die, meaning the version that ran from the Time War only ever regenerated twice (as far as we know).
I don't quite understand where you're getting the assumption from that Whedon would have to write an occult-style episode. Just because his longest-running show was on that theme doesn't mean he lacks sci-fi skills, Firefly, Dollhouse and (from what I've heard) Cabin In The Woods were all basically straight sci-fi. And you'd hardly call the basic plot of The Avengers outside the realms of feasibility in Doctor Who.

Re: Doctor Who
Here is just a theory.
The limit on regenerations was placed by the High Council not by Time Lord Biology.
The council is dead, no one to keep the rule, Done.

The next Doctor will be spoilt this Sunday 4/8/13.
So, use that date to hide under a rock if you want the Next Doctor to be a surprise.
And if you like to visit Doctor Who fan sites, get prepared hype to consume any excitement over the 50th anniversary.

Yah, if you can avoid knowing who the next doctor is until December then you just win the Internet.

Apparently, the bookies have closed bets on Peter Capaldi being the Doctor, as they reckon he's definately got it.

But... he already played the prime minister in Torchwood: Children of Earth. A pretty major role in a part of the Who universe.
Just like before, it will be someone we've never heard of.

Re: Doctor Who
He was a minister, but not the PM, but he was also in the Fires of Pompeii.
Re: Doctor Who
I'd be really impressed with the BBC if they go with a older actor for the role.

Re: Doctor Who
We need an older Doctor now. Anyway Freeman was a character in Who before she became a companion. Capaldi was also in the episode which required the Doctor and Dona to set off Mount Vesuvius.

Re: Doctor Who
We have seen a lot of people playing minor roles and then go on to play bigger roles (Karen Gillan, Eve Myles and more) and it would not be the first time a Doctor appeared as another character before playing the Doctor (Colin Baker as Maxil)

Re: Doctor Who
It's just very very annoying.
At least with Karen Gillan she had make-up on.
And with Freeman she was bit-character killed off brutally.
If you're going to cast an actor who had been in DoctorWhoniverse before, choose someone who you won't remember. A minor character who preferably got killed off.
