Re: Doctor Who
Love him or hate him, he's had a big hand in the stellar reception of the past couple years of Doctor Who, the ratings love him.
I was very skeptical of Smith when he first arrived, especially since his first episode is "Oh hello, crash landing a flaming TARDIS into earth, ho hum, fish fingers & custard!" but he's really developed.

Smith has taken a long time to grow on me, but I do like him now, just as he's leaving...

Re: Doctor Who
For me it's the exact opposite actually.
I loved the first few episodes with him and though I still enjoyed the more recent stuff I felt some of it got to be a little samey toward the end.
(Did we really need that many Angel episodes? The whole point that made them scary was their inhumanity and the mystery around them).
Looking forward to the next episode though, that's going to be amazing

What if Alan Turing came up with the test because he was actually a robot and wanted people to find out?

Re: Doctor Who
I felt he oscillated a lot; began with quite a lot of rubbish ones, had a few sparks of awesome here and there, and the average went up this season now he didn't have the ponds slightly spoiling the broth (it's only now that they've gone that I've realised how frequently they didn't do a good job). I liked him enough that I'm a little sad to see him go, but am getting proper into who the next one's gonna be

Re: Doctor Who
People seem to forget just how terrible a lot of RTD era Who was though. In a few years all that will be remembered of Smith will be the good bits, just like with Tennant.

Perhaps I ought to watch Ace-Era Who.

Oh okay then that's fair. And I agree about Katarina and Sara Kingdom - I don't count single story or two-story characters as companions anyway (eg. Adam, Astrid, Captain what'sherface from Waters of Mars)

I found that he was a lot better whenever the river song arc episodes came up or anything that actually was about the doctor. A Good man goes to war, would be one of best of his episodes. Otherwise he seemed a little "ho-hum" to me. That said, 9 and 10 were the same way- If they weren't involved in the main series arc or something about their own story, they weren't as good.

Do it! The seventh Doctor was pretty awesome, and his run contains a lot of hints as to The Doctor's true identity.
And yeah, Ace was amazing.

Hmm... I need to get myself into an unescapable life-or-death situation for the end of episode cliff hanger... I know! I'll climb over this railing and hang over a sheer drop by my umbrella FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER! That'll work.

Re: Doctor Who
Yeah, okay. No Doctor had a flawless run. I still think that if you've watched all of NuWho, and especially if you sat through the TV movie, then it's well worth your while to go back one more Doctor.
(I mean, obviously I enjoy all the Doctors, but telling people to watch everything usually just seems to result in them thinking it's too daunting.)
Besides, that scene was shown in The Name of the Doctor as one where the Great Intelligence was working to destroy the Doctor, so presumably he influenced things, or something. (?)

Re: Doctor Who
I'm wondering whether Clara echoes being human, but the Galifryan one being Galifrayan is a point of interest or a plot hole.
And I am curious as to why River has a psychic connection with Clara (and The Doctor).
That's the problem with Doctor Who, some plot holes can't be accused of being a plot hole because it might be a vital point for the future.

Re: Doctor Who
My guess would be, the doctor is incredibly powerful psychicly and he and river being husband and wife are bonded together by that link. Then Clara jumps into what is essentially The Doctor.

Re: Doctor Who
It said in the episode that the reason there was a psychic link between River and Clara is because River kept the link created by Madame Vastra open after the "call" was supposed to be closed, so that they could continue to communicate.

Re: Doctor Who
I really love the exchange:
The Doctor: You're always here to me. And I always listen. And I can always see you.
River: Then why didn't you speak to me?
The Doctor: Because I thought it would hurt too much.
River: I believe I could have coped.
The Doctor: No, I thought it would hurt me. And I was right.
Even if Matt Smith doesnt display a lick of emotion, Alex Kingston really pulls it off and makes you hurt in the heart hole.

Double good news, the Daleks will return for the 50th anniversary and it won't be in their skittle form but the one we grew up with since Ecclestone.

Re: Doctor Who
I lol at the fanpeoples on Doctor Who sites who doubted the Time War would feature in the 50th because Moffat hates using other people's ideas (Time War is a RTD creation).

Re: Doctor Who
While it's now more probable that it'll be a Last Great Time War story, I'd still say it's a broad assumption to just assume that it is.
