GUYS! GUYS!!!

IDEA!

Last minute, shit, I know, but seriously! Somebody get in contact with Christiaan Van Vuuren, AKA The Fully Sick Rapper.

For those who don't know about him, random kiwi spends months in quarantine with tuberculosis, makes hilarious rap songs to amuse himself and his friends, put them on youtube, it explodes. For those interested, his first video is here.

He's actually better now, but apparantly still making videos.

That said, who would be better to promote the cause behind Child's Play than someone who turned living in a hospital into viral hilarity? Plus, he can help spread the word to the nation of New Zealand, where sadly the name "Child's Play" is associated more with children's edutainment toys than with actually FUN games!

Additionally, maybe we can turn fans of Desert Bus onto the cause of raising awareness for vaccinations against TB and similar diseases? Who knows?!

DO IT NAOW!

~Alja~

I hope Tim will be making an appearance as a guest driver. I miss Tim. He could regale us with 50-word stories written about or by people on the bus.

I second the Tim guest driving! He could tell some 50 word stories and play "Who's a Cow?" one last time.

Hey, just asking, but where are the video ads for desert bus, ala last year? Shouldn't they be going up on the vids by now? Dragging more people in, for the children.

I've also forgotten to do my ones for this year too. Too much work and midnight openings damn you COD and Kinect. Luckily enough I have a backup from last year.

I'm so excited to be returning to Victoria to lend a hand (and maybe a voice) at Desert Bus again this year. I'll be around Saturday to Monday.

I'm also happy to say that I have Monday and Tuesday off of work, so I'll be VERY active watching it this time around. Energy drinks are my friends! :D

Just out of curiosity to Graham and the crew... what would be the chances of getting a re-enactment of your favourite scene from the Harry Potter books in the first 3-4 hours of Desert Bus, and how much would you want for it? My fiancée's book club are doing a Harry Potter thing to prepare for the last movie, and I'd love to crash their party with a quick message to watch you guys.

If not, I'm sure I'll find other reasons to donate later. :)

Dude I'm so stupidly excited. Anticipation building. I can't believe it's already been a year.
Also with my "bus fair for hope" thing I managed to scrape together 20$ I'm also supplementing that with a further 50$ since I get paid this Friday. Yep that means I'l have a grand total of 70$ to spend on donations and swag auctions.

Do we have a thread dedicated for getting $ values for challenges? Maybe one should be started?

The dollar values are always just done randomly during the event. It doesn't work particularly well with the insane chat, anyway. I think we want to see what the Crew has ready this year. I'm hoping they have a better system up and running for requests than in years past. Feel free to discuss, of course, but I don't think it's going to impact Desert Bus in any way, shape or form.

Don't forget about the tech test tonight. I'm thinking they'll announce it on twitter so keep your clients up and running!

UStream chat is currently borked. Hopefully they fix it by the tech test, else move to #LoadingReadyRun?

So. Excited.

Desert Bus means a bit more to me this year than the other two I've attended. Earlier this year my little brother, who had just turned 3 at the time, had to go in for a major heart operation at Bristol because 75% of his blood wasn't being pumped by the heart. He was at Bristol for nearly two weeks before he could come home. There was a complication during the op where there was an air bubble that travelled up into his brain and caused him to have a stroke and lose control of his left arm for a long time. I gave him my DS earlier so using the pen was a way to get control back when playing Peppa Pig.

Then a week after that he came down with strep and had to go back to Bristol Hospital for a few days then was sent to a hospital much closer to where we live. He had to spend two weeks in an isolation room that was 2m by 3m. With a hospital bed there isn't that much space for him to do anything but watch Top Gear all day on Dave (luckily I had him hooked on the show before hand).

When my mother and step-father had to go to Bristol they would have had to get a hotel room but it was fortunate that the hospital was part of the RMHC set up by McDonald's. They provided a bed for free for families who have to live go far away. So now whenever I take my brother to McDonald's my mother and I always donate because it was such a good thing. Anyone else who goes there I'd ask to donate to them as well because it saved such a hassle for my family because Child's Play does only reach so far.

If you're using an independent client like mIRC: Server is Chat1.ustream.tv, channel is desert-bus-drivercam. I think you'll also have to have a ustream user name and password to get on.

I have to admit that I did not realise this until the third DBFH but one of the kids that Child's Play now helps. I broke my leg when I was four and spent over two months in hospital mostly confined to bed.
