D'oh! If you can't see it, that probably means BBC videos aren't available in foreign countries. Just buy the Peter Serafinowicz Show DVD and watch the "Let's Have an Orgy!" sketch. It rocks.

Speaking from disturbingly practical experience, it's actually less about the absolute number of participants and more about the number of possible interactions between participants.

The math gets a bit perverse depending on how many combinations of genders and preferences your event is catering to. You generally want each participant to be able to switch partners at least twice.

The absolute minimum though is 4.
