Personal Goals and Targets

Postby Lyinginbedmon » 01 Oct 2010, 16:29

Everyone tends to mark their life with landmark moments, and the more important tend to be moments where they achieved a long-standing goal in their life. For example, maybe you finished university and got your degree, maybe you bought your first car, maybe you finally moved to Zambia, who knows?

This then is a thread where you can tell of goals you worked hard to complete, goals you are still in the process of completing, and goals far off in the future you intend to achieve with gusto.

I'll get things started with a couple of mine:
  • In five years, give or take (just so she doesn't expect it on day N), I will make a wedding proposal to the most wonderful woman it has ever been my fortune to meet, and my goal is to make it the geekiest most wonderful proposal she could never dream of, because that's entirely what she really deserves.
  • At the end of Book 5 of my webcomic lies what the setting's history recounts as The Battle of the Palace. It lasted 3 days and is the culmination of what I've been writing and drawing since November 2007. My goal is to make it one of the longest and most detailed comic battles in history, sending Remember off with a big bang, with few if any time skips, and that if one knew absolutely nothing about conditions in a pitched battle before reading it they will have a clear and good idea of what they're like afterwards.

Within the year I shall perform at an open mic night at least once.

Within four I shall figure out if this whole 'making movies' thing is for me.

- Start making comics again (I used to do it all the time, but with no incredible boredom brought on by Spanish class, I've got nothing)
- Get a nice shiny degree in Physics or Political Science [overambitious]or both[/overambitious]
- Drink a fresh bottle of Crystal Pepsi (I've got Brad Jones on my side!)

I guess getting a job in computer repair or graphic arts would be rad, also finding a girl who likes films as much as I do. So I'll work on that

Though in the short term I WILL MASTER YOU TRON BONNE AND WE WILL BE THE BEST TAG TEAM IN MvC2!

Dude, that's real easy.

Grab a ukulele, make up some bullshit comedy lyrics and strum weird chords as fast as you can.

Instant crowd approval.

My short term target is to get my ass in gear and apply for university already.

Beyond that, I'm not sure really. A girlfriend would be pretty cool I guess, but I am really restricted on my options on that front.

I suppose you could say I have a goal to travel New Zealand during the Summer, and to have an awesome time.

Ditto. Just gotta find one that operates in the North West of England. Open mic stand up for me though.

I kinda achieved my goal of graduating uni and getting a job at a good hospital. So now to move on to other things I guess. Now THATS a weird feeling. Actually finishing education and achieving some shit.
Nothing to see here.

Not sure how long this would take me, but I want to get into the video game industry as a game writer (not sure if I will want to become one of the top people in a company). Where I go I do not know, Canada would be interesting but I'll have to see what happens.

Also to write some books and screen plays.

Short-term goal is to move back to B.C. and get a job in my field. This one is sort of in the process of happening, although much slower then I'd prefer.

I'd also like to ride The Canadian, Via Rail's cross country train. That could work out as part of the above goal, but we'll see.

Long term, I'd like to go back to school. But I need to pay off student loans and such first.

Within the next five years, I will get my boyfriend to ease off referring to me in almost every other post he makes... you know, before he gets shot in the face by someone :P

Within the next year, I will perform at an open mic, and write more sketches

Within the next two years, I will finish some of the back-burner ideas I have tucked away in my hard drive.

My goals at the start of this year were:

-Get a full time job
-Rent a place of my own
-Lose weight
-Stop being a hermit

So far I've only made progress on number 3, and only in the last 2 months since I brought a Wii and Wii fit.

I will enforce the latter half of the following resolution:

Mad Madam Mimm wrote:Within the next year, I will perform at an open mic, and write more sketches

I will also write more sketches myself.

They will not be thirty pages long and heavily dependent on a plot that I had in mind when I started writing, but forgot to include in the actual sketch.

I will also write a sketch set in a church which is not remotely blasphemous, because Mimm doesn't believe it can be done and she challenged me to.

I don't really have serious goals.

I have silly goals, so I can list those.

-Finish a fucking cryptic crossword (Just getting two words was so hard)
-get a tattoo (or several [I have plans])
-write a good comic for mathNews
-become an editor for mathNews (but not under the pseudonym of WhorED [just NO staticIP, just NO]) or a director of mathSoc
-Own some Spiderman comics
-Not die
I can put my hands in my head, and I can laugh it in the face.

-Submit patent application, sometime within the next 12 - 18 months.
-Get healthy eating back on track
-Maintain exercise schedule
-Save enough money to work with a personal trainer starting next year. I've avoided gym-type exercise for so many years that I really need the education and ass-kicking a trainer would provide.

Maybe at some point in the future, a tattoo of this. Not clear when/if I would want to commit the resources, though.
