So, I entered the Escapist Film Festival...
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/4thAnnualFilmFestival/view?video=2279
I wanted to watch all the entries to see what my chances are, and I didn't want anyone to vote for me unless they watched them all (especially since it's just for the viewer's choice thing anyway), but...
There's 73 entrants, if I counted right.
I guess I'll start while my potatoes are boiling.
EDIT: Snap, I didn't see that Paul and Graham were judges for part of it.
EDIT 2: Breaking Blizzard is by WOODY? I have to compete with him!? I'm sunk.
EDIT 3: 73 entries, not 93.

Ah, I thought I spotted you in the escapist thread but I wasn't sure.
Nice vid, I think the last animation and the news report were the highlights.
As an aside I also entered... *cough* http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/4thAnnualFilmFestival/view?video=2320 *cough*
EDIT: Fixed broken link. Hopefully.
EDIT: God damnit, why does it work in preview but not in the thread.
If it doesn't work this time, it's first page 3rd down - Vs. Mode.

I like it. It's like Monty Python, Rocky & Bullwinkle and The Red Green Show had some sort of unnatural but pleasant three-headed child.

Actually, there are 73 videos. I know because, one of them is mine! Well, and Vicious' too.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/4thAnnualFilmFestival/view?video=2255
From the guys who brought you Kounter (please don't hold that against us, lol).
As for your entry, King Kool. Not bad, definitely some potential there.
Also, what is up with this First Cut thing? No way a couple of those are the best there is to offer (two are straight ripoffs of existing Escapist series).
Sorry in advance if I kill the thread. I have a tendency to do that.

Re: So, I entered the Escapist Film Festival...
Don't worry. I found Breaking Blizzard a bit... Meh...
And you video was funny. Admitidly was a bit hit and miss, but compaired to the other entries, *alot* more enjoyable to watch. I actually laughed.
The other link, VS Mode.. um, probably not the video for me Funny concept, but dot dot dot
There was a video which suspiciously looked like Phail House *ponders*.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content ... video=2283
And Unskippable.
There Shalt be only one Phail! And set of people talking over cutscenes/trailers.

As a judge, I will hold off on any direct comments for now, but if anyone wants constructive criticism after the fact, I'd be happy to give some.
Also, the overall quality of the entries is much higher than last year, so good job all around!

Fair enough, but could you better explain the First Cut feature? Not really clear what's going on there. Are the videos on the first page supposed to be the best? And is that why the videos are not shifting with voting as they did last year (or will everything move after votes are tabulated after a certain period of time)?

I hope they don't shift them for a while. It is a major task wanting to watch all the videos so you feel like you give all the videos a valid chance of earning your vote

Re: So, I entered the Escapist Film Festival...
All the videos posted in this thread by you guys all have potential. The ending of King Kool's video was very funny, especially the zombie new report. And I really enjoyed Jarrgon's Vs. Mode, and would love to see more of that.
and yes I saw that trailer video that was suspiciously like unskippable...
haven't even gotten through the first page of these videos yet and I want to give each a fair chance, you're right Merrymaker_Mortalis it is quite a task..

All the videos in this thread good. I liked all of them. All the self-plugged ones, anyways.
Also, I haven't been able to find the "Unskippable" one. Anyone care to give me a hint?

I saw Jarrgon's before. That was also interesting. And Scottish accents make everything better.
EDIT: The Trailer one. It's like the third one.
EDIT 2: So far, I've laughed hardest at this one.

Ha! Eat it 2009! Your two zeros are no match for your...two...zeros.
Huh.
Anyway, I assume that Paul and Graham are judges to keep them too busy to create another series for the Escapist. They have so many Escapist series. There can be no more.
Re: So, I entered the Escapist Film Festival...
As near as I can figure—and I hate to be the bearer of bad news—the "First Cut" videos are the ones currently in the final running, and anything beyond the first page isn't on the shortlist.
With no information on it given to me, let me say two things:
1) The listed judges, like myself, did not make these choices. We are advising the final decision based on those 20 videos.
2) If I had to guess why voting is still enabled on the remaining videos, I'd wager it's in case something the Escapist wasn't expecting garners a huge upswing in votes and they need to rethink their First Cut.
THIS IS ALL CONJECTURE. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I'M LOOKING AT A SHORTLIST.

Re: So, I entered the Escapist Film Festival...
Upon further actually-reading-the-webpage (sigh, I suck), you are all voting for Viewers Choice, which does not win a contract.

Re: So, I entered the Escapist Film Festival...
I knew from the start that OUR voting doesn't affect the actual decision, which is why I don't give a toss if people vote for mine. If I'd known that you guys were judges, I probably wouldn't have even made the topic.

No worries, thanks for the response Graham (the feature really isn't explained very well at the Escapist).

If these are the short listed videos, I feel sorry for the people who had to filter the videos to begin with (I mean, there would be *alot*).

Thanks for the comments. Even if they were heavily accent based ha.
Merrymaker, anything you would change to improve or just a general meh on the concept?
So does this mean there's only one contract going out this year?
