The last of Loading, Ready and Run has Died

Postby Elomin Sha » 19 Nov 2010, 08:22

I've been mulling this over for the past two weeks and decided I want to get a bird. It's a choice between Finch, Cockatiel or Budgie.

I have previously owned a budgie and it died from old age so I could go for something different but for the price of 1 1/2 cockatiels I could get three and name them Loading, Ready and Run or PS3, PS3 and PS3. I've joked in my head that if I went for a cockatiel I'd name it after the monster from Final Fantasy. The pet shop does sell canaries but I'm not sure on them, I know that they are good at discovering poisonous veins in mines but it wouldn't last 5 seconds in my room. I really do need to take my yearly bath soon.

Any ideas or suggestions, bear in mind where I live thee is not much choice beyond these.

These have a nasty habit of turning into sex polls. But I'm going to stick with the atari cartridge.

I'm not calling one of them 'the word'

Bleary-eyed just-awake misreading of thread title:

"get a bird"... in slang... not far off.

I absolutely love finches, but they have a tendancy to spit their seed shells everywhere.

I'm not a big fan of budgies, but they make for a hardy pet, and can be taught to talk (If you're lucky, mine never did but my grandmothers wouldn't ever shut up)

Cockatiels are fun, but I don't think they're worth the money.

So it seems like budgie is the logical way to go. However I still voted finches.

I like my idea of naming them Loading Ready Run, but I've had a budgie before. Stick with what I know or get something different, tough choice.

You also might want to consider what you expect out of your pets. If you're looking forsomething more interactive, something you can handle and train then budgie is defiantly the way to go. I had a friend once who had a cockatiel who was also very well trained and knew several tricks so it's still an option.

however finches are more the type of pet you look at and listen to. Like noisy fish.

Made it more complicated, I'd like to look at and listen to a finch. Teaching tricks to a cockatiel would be nice. With a budgie I can let it out and fly around my room.

I have a cockatiel and a budige both. I actually would recommend a cockatiel more than a budgie as cockatiels (from my experience) tend to be calmer and a bit quieter than budgies.
As well, head into a bird rescue as there are lots of birds that have been abandoned and surrendered because people just couldn't take care of them.
Take it with a grain of salt though, and make sure that you do a lot of research as to which would be a better bird for you.

If the cockatiel's going to be quieter than my last budgie I'd think I bought a Norwegian Blue. It never made a sound. I'm going to see how feasible it would be if I bought one of each. At least I would tell which was which.

How long do parrots live? There's a pet parrot in my family that's been passed down through a few generations and has to be at least 70 now.

Depending on the species, some parrots can live to be even 100 years old.

Large parrots (Such as macaws) are definately a lifetime commitment, and thensome.

If I had a bird, I would feel bad leaving him in a cage all day... I would let him hang out in my house and fly around. Although I don't know if that is possible. But if it was, I would totally think about getting a bird

ps I voted for cockatiel, because they are the awesomest

It's totally possible to have your bird out of its cage if it trusts you enough.

You will likely end up with poop in places you wouldn't have thought to have poop before though.

Here are my three budgies.

Image

Loading is the Grey (on the right), Ready is the blue one (on the perch) and Run is the green one (in the middle). RUn was only named that when I tried to get it in the cage, I spent 10 minutes running around my room trying to catch the blighter, it was very good as escaping.
