Re: Snow Europe has a lot of it
I almost slipped and fell 5 times. It's almost an odyssey going to the store and back, and that is if you're on foot, better leave the car or bike at home, unless you want to park it in someone's trunk.
It's not that bad, I've seen worse, but then again, I have been around for almost 31 years now. But this however is the earliest I've seen the snow so far, and the earliest the actual winter has set in, so this promises a lot for the coming 2 months.
However the weather forcast seems the be saying that the snowing will end around Thursday and then we'll have heavy rains taking it's place....

I missed work today and probably tomorrow due to snow. So it's not all bad.

about the same as my neighbourhood then, although the big streets are snow free, just have to walk for a while.
I will take heavy rain over snow.
Re: Snow Europe has a lot of it
It was wet and snow made me soggy, but nothing has settled here yet... Vaguely disappointing really, especially considering that back home has quite a bit of snow right now...

Plenty of snow laying around, and most of the snow from a few days ago has compacted and frozen over, meaning it's very slippy unless it's broken up.

I'm in Swansea, no snow. Rare for it over here.

Good, then you all won't mind taking the 5cm that got plastered on us...usually sideways from these 60-100km/h winds.
Turned to drizzle by suppertime, but I know it's gonna chill off and freeze; tomorrow I should install skates on the car for all the ice that'll be on the roads.

Latest forecast says it will start thawing late on Friday or early Saturday over here. For now its a -5 degrees C max during the day. With a -14 to -20 degrees C wind chill. Unusually cold for the Netherlands.

There's not a lot of snow in England. There is some snow. People here just can't deal with it.

Re: Snow Europe has a lot of it
Until this time last night, I was in the one part of the UK without snow. As of now, the inch or two of snow that fell is largely gone, replaced by pavement ice and black sludge. Meanwhile, back home up North, they've seen a good four or five inches (and got a Dickensian winter wonderland before the onset of the black sludge). Fun times.

I have it on good authority that sheffielf has 18 inches of the stuff. We have 8 (south London). Seems like a lot to me...

I actually can't help but feel little amused every time this happens. I know, I know... Snow really messes things up if it's not common, but it's just funny to think that what would be an average day in the northern Europe is a frozen hell in the South.
Now go and pick up a shovel. That snow ain't gonna be meltin' before april.
You blubberin' ninnies. =)

Re: Snow Europe has a lot of it
There's a good foot of snow here but people are just taking advantage of the hype. Buses running to their own time, students going "There's snow on the ground! I'm not coming in!" and all sorts of whining. I walked it to college. A good 3 mile walk in knee deep snow is nothing. If anything, it made me feel fitter. Wasn't even that cold either. People just take any excuse they can to avoid a day of work.

While I hate it, it's no excuse not to go somewhere for me. Turned up for work every day, and things like going to the store I did on foot. You have to adapt and it's scary when you hit a patch of ice (or when you can't see that one part is higher up than the other, a little ledge made my fall of my bike today) but otherwise it is perfectly fine to go out.

Re: Snow Europe has a lot of it
I'm torn between laughing and... lauthing and pointing. See I live in teh subarctic area of scandinavia, so the snow that europe is currently getting is but a fraction of what we usually get and we can ahndle it. Mostly I tend to feel this way when the south of sweden gets snow since that equals chaos (It seems like every year; the fact that it might actually start to snow comes as a compleate surprise to them)
I would laught, but I'm sadly not capable due to jealousness. see we've hardly gotten any snow so far this year, but instead just intense cold. Nothing I can't handle but it's boring with this little snow. so send some of that snow my way would you?

You want some of the two foot long icicles hanging from my window too?
They were formed when the washing machine, dish washer and all that produces steam which comes out of a pipe outside. This steam rises, becomes water on the upper window sill and eventually becomes ice. I'm tempted to break one off and drop it in my whiskey.

THIS. DO THIS.
For those wintry folks chuckling at the woes of those not used to winter, just remember that next time you're suffering through a 30 C heat wave. And those in warmer climes shrug it off and put on a toque.

...uphill...
...in England (Scotland, really, but still)
(What really twigged me to this is the blogpost that mentioned this said "deal with an icy hill LIKE A BUS!" which automatically made me think of Woody and DBFH3)
Re: Snow Europe has a lot of it
... to their own time table. 2 hours I had to wait for a bus on Monday. A bus service that brags "EVERY 10 MINUTES!" Not ONE of them! From EITHER DIRECTION! If that was a First bus, you'd never have seen it. The driver would have taken the day off.
Still, that Arriva bus was very impressive getting up that hill. That driver has mad skillz.
