You get the full Let's Play done by Unskippable, the ENN Rejected bits, and the only true way to watch Daily Drop: In HD.

HD is worth it. That and no ads.

Honestly, to me, it's not so much the bonus content, but the advantages (if applicable).

For example, I went to Chicago a couple of weeks ago. I didn't have the Internet, but I did have my iPhone and a 3G connection. With the Pub Club's ability to view vids on mobile devices, I didn't have to miss a video like I usually would. If you fall into that camp, especially if it's more often than I, you should get it.

Besides that, and ENN Rejected, I personally can't recommend it. If I was you, I'd just wait until the next Desert Bus and see if they have a special again.

For me, it's simply supporting The Escapist.

This is the kind of journalism gaming needs, to my mind. Higher brow, thoughtful stuff, that treats games not as a software package but a work of art. Crispy Gamer tried to be an alternative and failed horribly. And after the Escapist there's... what? Rock Paper Shotgun, and ... um...

Yeah. I'm at a loss.

It's worth it simply for the HD, but the iPad usage is an added bonus.

I would consider the publishing club if they brought ENN back to weekly serialization :P

All I watch on The Escapist is ENN, LRR, and D&A, and one of them currently isn't running, and another is only running half as often. It's hard to feel supportive right now >.>

You forgot about G4... Really, what higher thought game news outlet is there other than the Escapist?

Even though my account will double in price when it renews, I would still say it is hugely worth it.
The mobile capability is great, not sitting through ads is also good, HD vids are spectacular, bonus and exclusive content is nice. Plus you get a custom forum rank!
Seriously even at 20 bucks it's a steal because it's for the entire year. Think of it this way. If you go to The Escapist just for LRR videos (NOT escapist property just plain LRR) it's about 40 cents a video. You get 5 minutes of HD video for 40 cents every week. Now if you start factoring in other LRR content (Daily Drop, ENN, Unskippable) it amounts to pennies. It's a good buy. DO EET!

I got it back when it was $10 and a no-brainer. I enjoy watching the videos in HD and don't even realize that other people have to watch ads anymore. Having to watch a 30-second ad before each 90-second daily drop (in SD) seems like it would get old fast. I'll probably renew it this year for $20. LRR in HD alone is worth $20/year IMO.

PubClub stuff that relates directly to LRR:

- Higher quality videos (it's really, really nice)
- All of Let's Play is up right now
- Rejected ENN segments most every week (stories we recorded, but didn't use)
- All the Escapist's video are playable on iOS devices (iPhone and iPad), which is a big deal to people like me

There's other cool stuff, but that's the LRR-centric bits.

No irony.

Yes, the Escapist has Zero Punctuation, but y'know, Yahtzee has (sometimes) been pretty insightful and sharp. And I don't need any qualifications about series like Extra Credits.

Not to mention the articles, which seriously, more people need to read. Subjects like homosexuality in gaming, online experience, and more. I'm not saying the Escapist is perfect: It created the horror that was Game Dogs, after all. But it's a great site. I would be sad to see it go the way of Crispy, while artless software review sites like IGN and Gamespot keep raking in the dough.

Except for when they aren't.

Let's not get carried away here. The Escapist employs good writers and bad writers. Sometimes they have excellent articles, and some of the columnists are reliable.

I would be more interested in a site that advertised this than one that advertised that there columnists shit gold. *cough* cracked *cough*
When websites realise that "oh hey, we have videos of a "highbrow" guy in a suit doing intelligent thoughtfull reviews alongside some guy making poop jokes, maybe not everyone would find them both funny." i can die happy.

No doubt, Thrash. As I said, they ain't perfect. But they're valuable, and few are even trying to do what they do. After them, it's Rock Paper Shotgun, and maaaaaybe Tom Chick. Oh, and Gamecritics.com, but they're tinier than tiny.

Like I said, The Escapist is one of the only sources online for high quality video game and geek news, I mean, Yahtzee and Movie Bob alone make up for ANY low quality content that may find its way onto The Escapist *coughgamedogscough* add a little LRR and you got something full of edutainment! (that is, education in the way that it is informative of the news, not that other thing)

For tech news in general, try Theregister.co.uk. They also have some very decent reviews of a lot of different stuff. (From server hardware to consumer camera's)
