I've been on a kick recently of listening to a Spotify radio based on the (extremely brilliant) album "DROKK: Music Inspired by Mega-City One" by Geoff Barrow (of Portishead) and Ben Salisbury. Some pretty heady stuff, good ambient listening. Main musical obsession born from this has been an electronic music duo called Gatekeeper, in particular their Italo-Disco/Darkwave EP "Giza".

The title track is gooooooooood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBTcuGiGDJY

Have spent the last few days on a fix of farewell music, and other (predominantly Celtic) sounds of that nature. Somehow, I'm still left feeling like I want more

They're (BabyMetal) back in the country in November. Vacillating on seeing them this time having missed them back in July.

I was in Ireland when they came to England, kind of annoyed but I got to meet Fayili, IX and almost felt up a sexual predator. It was probably just as entertaining.

About 7 years ago, I was introduced to Devin Townsend, specifically his Ziltoid the Omniscient album. It had on it, one of my favourite tracks of all time, Hyperdrive.

Recently I was looking through his other stuff, and found the track had been re-recorded with vocals from a woman named Anneke van Giersbergen. This version now my new favourite song. I have a thing for rock/metal music with female vocalist.

I'm kind of obsessed by Holly Herndon's music at the moment, in particular the latest track she put out quite recently (and he attendant video) "Home": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_3mCDJ_iWc

My relationship with her stuff is a strange one, a mix of fascination, frustration, admiration and puzzlement - A lot of the music is VERY experimental and the antithesis of anything remotely traditional, but with occasional nods to current trends in bedroom synth-wizardry. It almost feels like music from a digital hermit, or the future, or some artificial intelligence trying to communicate through odd vocal samples. It's confounding, but in a good way, an interesting way. This is my current musical challenge to myself.

That song from The Professor's Funhouse.

I do wonder about the origins of the song, though.

I don't know if I ever shared the source of my Avatar: Get Jinxed. I don't play LoL at all, but this song is bad ass. Reminds me a lot of Mindless Self Indulgence.

This is a day I never thought I'd see...

Prince does a cover of the Nichole Nordeman song "What If?"

Edit: Changed the link to a personal one, due to Prince taking the song off the Internet.

Apparently Chino Moreno from Deftone has had a couple of side projects.

I've been listening to these (and the rest of the album) for a few days.

Bombay Bicycle Club's latest album, "So Long, See You Tomorrow". On repeat. I cannot stop listening to this album. Especially "Carry Me" and "Come To". Yeah.

Haven't been able to stop listening to St. Vincents album St. Vincent for a few months now. Also the album Gold Shadows by Asaf Avidan is amazing.

Steven Wilson's new album Hand. Cannot. Erase.

It's incredibly beautiful music, but it's also incredibly sad.

It's inspired by the death of Joyce Vincent, a woman who died in her thirties in her apartment, but even though she had a family, a social life, etc... her body remained undiscovered for three years.

Over the post couple of months, I've been continuously listening to Hjaltalín, a much more 'pop' like group compared to what I usually listen to, but each of their albums offer something different.

Here is a version of one of their songs, Suitcase Man, that I find particularly stunning.
I'm also QuintonDreaming. Stupid username availability prevents me from always being an Icelandic volcano.

Listening to that has a prominent place on my to-do list. Really looking forward to listening to it.

New Nightwish album seems to be have been made available early on this listening service. I have pre-ordered the album so I don't feel like I've done anything amoral. The album seems to sound polished, so I am not listening to not-finished songs either.
I love the album. It's great.

I like what they have done with the theme (science) and put their Nightwishy twist on it. They turned a subject that is sometimes depicted as cold and blunt and they have placed wonder and awe within it.

It's also funny that they have Richard Dawnkins the professional Atheist (and apparently also a scientist) doing narration. The stuff he says on two of the tracks would not be out of place in a church sermon. I find that irony funny.

<3 the album. It's worth the wait for those who are waiting for it and want to wait for the official release.
I'm under selling it because I find when someone says something is "amazing", I disagree.
--
Now it's been officially released, I feel like it's OK to say something more specific about it.
There is only 1 song on the album which I don't like. And even then it's a neutral reaction. It's the instrumental track, so that can grow on me.
Yeah, very rare to like practically the whole album within the first few days of hearing it.

That "epic" 20 minute song really grew on me. Lyrically it's awesome. Musically it's great.
