I'll give Mostly Autumn a listen sometime soon!

Loser is utterly amazing. It and Confrontation were the two songs that really made me go 'hold on, there's a story here and it seems interesting. I have to listen to this album again and pay attention' when I first listened to The Human Equation. Interesting detail, by the way: the main voice in Loser is not actually meant to be an emotion, but the main character's father showing up at the hospital and being a massive chumpus, hence lines like 'you don't even look like me, ha! Not even close!' The song works great under that interpretation too, though, especially Rage's massive freakout at the end.

Thanks for reminding me about Imaginaerum, by the way! I've listened to the album a ton, but I keep forgetting to check out the movie.

I don't think I could even pick a favourite, but if I tried, Loser would certainly be in the running, yeah.

For me, I actually went in knowing it was a story (I found Ayreon in a weird way... one of my favourite artists, Phideaux, who is not super well known, does guest vocals for like two lines in 10101001010101001, as the guy online dating at the end of the first disc. It's a tiny part, but I'm really glad it led me there!) so listening that first time actually not knowing anything about what was going to happen was a lot of fun.

Only kinda related, when I find an album like that, if I have time to sit down and listen to the whole thing, I like play through it in Audiosurf. I gives something for my hands and eyes to focus on that's tied into the music, but takes no brainpower away from following the story. I'm not someone who can just lie down and close their eyes and listen for over an hour. :P

Imagnierium is my second most favorite film of all time.

I strongly recommend it if you enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth.

I couldn't possibly pick a favourite either. Especially since I saw the theatre version, in which Hope and Betrayal, two songs I find a little underwhelming on the album, were portrayed really amazingly and full of emotion, and it made me appreciate those songs so much more.

When I'm listening to an audio-only thing like this (or a podcast or audioplay), I like to play a game I don't need much concentration for, like Minecraft or Euro Truck Simulator 2. That way, my eyes and hands have something to do while I focus on listening.

The weird instruments and melody of Loser are really good, yeah. When I first listened to The Human Equation, I wasn't paying that much attention (though still loving it) until the intro of that track, when I actually stopped what I was doing and went "Wait, is that a didgeridoo?"

Let me say for the record I'm incredibly jealous you got to see the theatre version live. :P I watched a little bit on Youtube and it looks like it was pretty amazing. Decided I'll wait for the DVD to see the whole thing, though.

And yeah, that didgeridoo took me by surprise, but it certainly worked well for that part. That's one thing I really like about Ayreon, is you get a lot of variety in instruments and play styles (probably thanks to all the guest musicians) but they all make something really cohesive and entertaining.

Yeah, I'm super lucky it was right here. It was an amazing show, full of great performances. The recast characters (Anneke van Giersbergen as Fear, Wudstik as the best friend, and Mike Mills as both the father and Rage) especially surprised me, as they were all so very well done. I was a bit worried about them, but though they each filled their parts in differently than the original singers, they were utterly stellar.

I do love the instrumental variety in Ayreon too. Symphonic metal in general tends to feature a lot of that, but Ayreon is especially fantastic at it.

Dark Moor has earned its place along side Nightwish as two bands I really want to see perform live.

Dark Moor's current front person has such an awesome voice. It's a singing style I want to develop.

Not really a current obsession but I'm sitting at the airport right now in a semi-lucid state at 4:40am appreciating the fuck out of the Smashing Pumpkins' album Siamese Dream...

After several years of getting bored with the Bubblegum Crisis 2032/2033 OSTs I've started listening to them non-stop now.

Asu e Touchdown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agiIQciIuzI
Thrill no Odoru Tenshi-Tachi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_4r1KG6SGg

Akuma to Tenshi Kiss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBnyQVVVS8Y

That should be it for terrible 80s anime.

Lot of Bowie for obvious reasons. Also lot of Placebo for the first time in bare minimum ten years due to same. Has to be said re Running Up That Hill, when the original is perfection you're only option (even moreso than most covers) has to be absolute desecration. Combined with absolute fealty obviously.

Today mostly traditional Chinese music since going to a guzheng recital earlier and just gotten back from a Chinese orchestra shindig across town. Interesting contrast with what was listening to (and making) barely twenty four hours ago.

Speaking of interesting contrasts, couple weeks back listening to lots of Motörhead and Hawkwind while also listening to lots of Namie Amuro. Not jarring somehow. Seemed perfectly normal in fact.

Kontrust.

Metal Punk band with yodeling and a sense of humour.

Mostly been listening to Ahab (doom metal band from Germany), Cattle Decapitation (deathgrind from the San Diego), Beneath The Massacre (technical death metal from Montreal, and Anaal Nathrakh (black metal from the UK).

You may have guessed I'm a bit of a fan of metal.

Oracion from Pokemon movie 10, The Rise of Darkrai

When I was a kid I used to watch the same movie back-to-back because I would like it so much and watching it once, and sometimes twice, simply wasn't enough. The Rise of Darkrai is one of the few movies I have done that with(a couple of times) as an adult. That's not to say that it's the best movie ever, but it's one that I thoroughly enjoy, and Oracion is part of the reason why.

OOMPH!
A german industrial metal band. They have a rich backlog and their greatest hits have awesome music videos. I don't know that much german but I'm learning a lot by listening and reading the translation of the lyrics.

I'd say not really an obsession, but I don't often buy new music, so I'll probably be listening to this album for a good while until the novelty of something new wears off... and that takes a while for me.

Two people associated with a band I like got together in Iceland and suddenlyish came out with an album under a different name. Both album and artist simply called 'Throws". I'm not really sure how to describe it.

Here is the official music video of the first song, which is pretty neat, but the whole album is worth checking out.
I'm also QuintonDreaming. Stupid username availability prevents me from always being an Icelandic volcano.

After couple months jamming Moon Shaped Pool the question begs can you get away with sounding kind of like Radiohead when you are in fact Radiohead?
