My current musical taste (not really an obsession) is pretty much anything from the 60s, 70s and 80s, you know when music was actually made for the sake of music and not just monies.

Oh no, they were made for the monies all right. Lots of popular crap came out then. It's just that the good stuff survived while most of the pop faded away.

also, my current actual musical obsesssion? learning music, and learning how to make and write and play it. Started with the Ukulele and the internet almost 2 years ago, and now has began to involve guitar, writing, drumming, re-learning piano, harmonica, synth, and mixing. I'm not great yet at anything, but I'm learning it, the DIY way. Let me hook you up with some free aps that have been really grabbing my intention in iOS and giving me some charge to play with:

iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (all platform instruments):

Beatwave: A complex and well featured tone matrix/tenrion/grid sequencer like app. Virtually identical versatility on iPhone/iPod Touch or iPad, but a bit easier to use on the pad. Has multiple music scales and settings, from fully harmonic ones to chromatic. You can customize anything from your instruments to your scale, and this makes it astoundingly powerful. It is what I call a "true free app" in that it is not an add run version of pay app (it does, however, feature a store where you can buy more instrument sounds).

NlogFree: a really cool and flexible synthesizer keyboard with a virtual keyboard interface, and immense flexibility in its sound and settings. (for example, by combining the xy interface and keyboard hold settings you can turn the thing into a theremin). lots of samples and again, ad free.

synthy recorder (free):

cool synth keyboard which can record wavs of the various synth sounds you create with it. can be glitchy, and the free version is ad driven. still really cool.

iPad only:

Mugician: an outright cool and unique instrument for iPad, and it's very hard to describe. It's kind of like a virtual 13 string base for your ipad. killer stuff, found about this one through the Gorillaz album the Fall (part of what has made me explore more instruments on iStuff. another true free app, this one is also freeware of sorts. look it up.

that's it for now.
Time flies when I launch grandfather clocks from my trebuchet.

I've not actually been paying any attention to the music of late (well the truth is that I was only ever up to the latest music when I worked on a radio station 10 years ago).

I've mostly listened to the awesme remixes of Touhou music lately... as in for the last 2 years

Not sure how I feel about The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. There's nothing terrible about them, but their sound seems to be a bit late to the party, and I don't really like the vocals being so quiet.

I'm basically a huge sucker for any shoegaze/similar band so The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are perfect for me. + I like the quiet vocals, it reminds me of My Bloody Valentine.

Right now, at this precise moment, I've got this great bit of duo work from Keiji Haino and Derek Bailey stuck in my head.

I currently can't stop listening to

Glad Igen by Rasmus Seebach
It's a song by a Danish artist(and in Danish, as you might guess. xP), and the lyrics go like this. (Translation is not by me)
Do you feel like me?
I can tell you’ve been crying again
Do you stand by a crossroad?
I think I know which way to take
It would be so easy
We could pretend noting was wrong
What if I held you close?
We could stay here, just for a moment, in dreamland.
But I know
I can’t live with it, would hate myself
If I kept you here, you deserve more

Yes, I know that you have to move on
But I want you to know, you are perfect
Baby, I’ll let you go
I let you fly
It’s time for you to be happy again

Take a seat honey, and give me a moment
I try to find them, but there are no right words to use
I know it’s going to sound stupid
I know it will hurt
But you deserve my honesty
I can’t live with it, would hate myself
If I kept you here, you deserve more

(chorus)

It’s nobody’s fault, promise me you’ll never change
I know someday you’ll be happy

(chorus)

And I'm also listening to You and My by Lifehouse

Love songs. Love 'em. ~<3

This is weird.
Songs FEATURING Pitbull. Not songs BY Pitbull.

Examples:
I like "Rabiosa" by Shakira, featuring Pitbull
I like "I Like It" by Enrique Iglesias, featuring Pitbull.
I dislike "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull, featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack, and Nayer.

Currently i'm looking a lot into The Phantom's Revenge. I use a bunch of his stuff in my mixing, but a few songs stand out in particular.

Last Man Standing (original Mix)
Charlie
Machine Gun Girl
TPR remix of Mother's of Charleston's 'Taxi Driver' (doesn't get good til 1:30)

All good stuff if you're into sample-chopping like myself.
