Not too dark, but too messy, too much chance of a coma (unless you're using something particularly large bore) I'd sooner get a reasonably airtight room and set off a bunch of CO2 extinguishers at a slow rate to maintain an oxygen free environment, but quickly enough to maintain a pressure gradient.
