+1
Also,I must be the only person who didn't like the episode. It just didn't feel like the others.

Which was something I kinda liked, if I'm honest. Felt more adventure-y

Re: Any Bronies up in here?
I'm not saying different is bad, it just felt... manufactured. It _felt_ as if the writers had to write things a certain way, instead of letting the story flow.
One reason I love MLP is that even though it's a 30 minute ad, it never feels that way. The writing team always seems to make even non-essential new characters (like Owlicious) feel as part of the world.
I guess I just felt the story part was too rushed, to "must-put-everything-in-ep 1- because-it's-a-new-season."
Or, I just didn't like it. *shrug*

Hmmm, maybe it was a tad rushed...
It was, however, really funny

It's the same format as the pilot episodes, so yeah idk.

Or put half of everything into the first episode. I completely disagree with you about pacing. Not once did I feel that any element of the story was introduced for marketing purposes. They had time to remind the viewer about the elements of harmony backstory, they had time to inrroduce and characterize dischord, and they had time for a few off the cuff jokes. Granted, there was more actual story than just faffing about and the whole thing was less cartoony, but I do not think they sacrificed any of their integrity for the sake of the opener.
edit: okay, the second half feels a little rushed, but that was a big story they're trying to fit in. Could've used an extra 5 minutes or so to flesh things out.
also: omg that ending scene. I love it when they do shit like that.

I wonder if children who watch this now will grow up and and think, "Wow, there was so much subtext I was missing."
Kind of like when I grew up and re-watched Rocko's Modern Life and thought, "Wow, this show is like 80% sex jokes."
Also, while I enjoyed the pilot, I think I liked the first half better. In part 2, it kind of felt like there was no redemption for anyone except Twilight. Though I did like that the first friend she reclaimed was Applejack. If you have to retake your friends by force, might as well start with the one who can lasso the rest.

I just loved watching the alter-ego ponies. Mean Fluttershy may just be the funniest thing.
Also, Star Wars joke!

Either I was paying too much attention to try and notice it and it slipped past me, or I'm not enough of a Star Wars nerd, because I completely missed the Star Wars joke that people are talking about!
Really enjoyed the episode, was thoroughly grateful the entire episode didn't consist of a ton of flashbacks, but the lack of a big musical number was a bit of a disappointment.

Re: Any Bronies up in here?
Ohhh, nice! I didn't catch the Star Wars reference right away but when I saw that clip & went back to the same scene in the show I saw it was nearly a shot for shot remake with all the winks & nods.
Overall, a good season opener. It built on what they created in the first season & expanded it a bit. Now Princess Celestia continues with her non-interference/free-will stance & we won't see much of her again until the next season opener.

Yeah, pretty much:

More like "How can I screw with Twilight and her friends today?"
I'm convinced that's the reason she only sent Twi two tickets instead of six after having met them all in the previous episode!

She's ruling Equestria! She probably never got a great chance to meet the mane cast after the events of the first opener. I imagine it never really occurred to her to have invited everybody.
