I, too, like the new voice a lot better. Reminds me of some of the better fan-voiced versions which came about before she was ever officially voiced.

The new voice is a VAST improvement.

Pretty much my thoughts. I don't think the name change was necessary, but I understand why they did it and can respect their decision.

That said.

Now, being that these forums tend to have a better sense of rhetoric than, well, the majority of the internet, this rant is likely unnecessary in this context, but it's still something I need to get off my chest. Ahem.

"They killed Derpy! Derpy is dead!"

Image

Look, I get where you're coming from. Derpy is the mascot of the community, and now she's back to being unnamed and that sucks. You have every right to feel angry, and even betrayed.

However.

Whoever you're choosing to blame, be it Hasbro, Apple, Studio B, anti-brony trolls, overprotective parents, whatever the case may be, they did not kill Derpy.

Because she isn't theirs to kill.

In any other show with any other fanbase, all Derpy would've ever been is a quietly forgotten animation error in the show's pilot. But this isn't any other fanbase. The bronies took this otherwise unremarkable background pony and gave her not only a name, but a history, a backstory, and a family. And to their credit, where quite a few fandoms out there would characterize her as "laugh at the retard" and nothing but, fanon made Derpy a hard worker and a loving mother, a pony who doesn't let her ditziness and clumsiness get in the way of her joy of life. That's an absolute breath of fresh air.

What does all this mean? It means that you, we, the bronies, are the ones who brought Derpy to life, and as such we're the ones who get to declare her dead. So the name isn't canon. So what? When's the last time that we as a community let canon get in the way of fanon anyway? After all, Lyra and Bon Bon are most certainly a couple and not just two friends who occasionally sit or stand next to each other, right? (And Lyra's definitely some sort of reverse-furry/otherkin hybrid due to the way she sits.) And Berry Punch is totally a drunk and didn't just sip straight from the punch bowl that one time. And Derpy herself! Fanon nigh-universally considers her to be a postal worker. Has this even been hinted at in canon?

The point is, she's your mascot. You adore her. That's great; I'm not about to stop you. But how about, instead of fighting this injustice by lashing out at anything with a pulse, celebrate Derpy? Keep making fan art, not depressing works that depict her as a martyr or innocent victim, but being the adorably silly, package-delivering, fridge-emptying Muffin Queen we all know she can be. Keep writing fan fiction depicting her exactly as she should be depicted, and not what her now-infamous appearance might have implied to some.

In other words, do exactly what you all were doing before The Last Roundup ever aired and the name-drop ever existed. Because, honestly, that's all we're going back to, and I daresay Derpy was most certainly alive and well back then.

Or you can declare her dead and seek vengeance on whoever "killed" her. Your call.

Is there a name for people who aren't bronies but are supportive of them?

You know how's there like PFLAG and Allies and everything for the LGBTQ community? :)

@Matt I already prefer it because the memebase site can have you scrolling through pages and pages whereas mylittlefacewhen has everything in thumbnails on the front page.
