Now that I think about it, the main cast is pretty ethnically diverse, with two ponies from each... domain? Caste? Species? Whichever. Of course, there's only one dragon, but then Spike is the only non-pony you see with any regularity anyway.

If anything, it's species-ist, seeing as Spike is only there to serve as an assistant to the others.

It's also child labor. Not a good idea to bear down on the creature who will one day be a massive juggernaut of death and destruction.
As far as Earth ponies go, I think they are also the most common. Pegasus seem to have the smallest representation, while unicorns and earth ponies show up the most. Of the latter groups, I'm pretty sure I see more stock ponies and ones with horns. If we were going to get dark with this, they would be the master race.

To be fair, that might just be the demographic for Ponyville. I believe it was stated that Ponyville was founded by earth ponies, which is why you can't use magic for Winter Wrap-up

Right, Canterlot has a large number of unicorns, and Cloudsdale is populated by pegasi. So there is some integration, but not total.
Which would make the main cast the pony equivalent of a group of token minorities.

To be fair, if anyone else tried to live in Cloudsdale, they'd plummet screaming to their messy demise.

FOX News believes that if you watch MLP you can claim disability. A thought echoed in 'their' FOX News Thoughts of the Day: http://twitter.com/#!/FOXNewsTOTD

I saw this article on the Escapist a while ago, and I watched the clip in question. Two things to take away from it:
1. People will do ANYTHING to get you to watch their program.
2. Apparently I don't have to work any more! Awesome!

You know that's a troll account, right? That it's not even Fox News? I mean, another one of their Thoughts of the Day was "The President has been Kidnapped by Ninjas: Are You a Bad Enough Dude to Rescue Him?"

A thought I had earlier which has been bothering me...
what happened to Sweetie Belle's and Applebloom's parents? Their sisters seem to be the ones that look after them the whole time...

Damn you, Matt. Saw the first ep, and yes, it's pretty cool. Probably going to see the second part as well, and then buy the DVDs.
