I thought a flyable Rainbow Dash (even in a plane) was awesome, until I read the product description.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't know long links would get cut off. Try it now.

That's how she was in G3. They must not have gotten the memo that she doesn't suck anymore.

This is a clear failure to communicate between the people making the show and the people making the toys.

Re: Any Bronies up in here?
This pony is actually accurate for it's release date. The plane was release in 2010 as part of the 'Ponyville' line that came out between G3 and G4(FIM). This version of Rainbow Dash still has a back story according to the G3 cartoons.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yr0yHsi ... 6A102EE97E
In the Gen 3 cartoons Rainbow was an earth pony fashoista. She had more personality in the main movies/cartoons than this short one, she was basically FIM's Rarity. So the toy does match that canon of ponys.
For the record the orange earth pony is Scootaloo and the white unicorn is Sweetie Bell.
Hasbro has a long history of changing the appearance and stories of the ponies between generations. It's something you just get used to, every Generation has to be looked at independently. If you go back to the first appearance of Fluttershy, Rainbow and Scootaloo they were all Earth ponies. Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell were both originally adults. Rarity was a young princess, and used to be pink with rainbow hair, the cutie marks of Rainbow, Rarity and Fluttershy have been changed. Pinkie Pie and Applejack are the only ponies to be consistent with their original appearances, and Twilight Sparkle and Applebloom never showed up before FIM.
In most cases the ponies in FIM are a combination of Gen 1 and Gen 3 ponies. Where the Gen 1 isn't apparent in the design it's in the personality, Pinkie Pies partying is VERY Surprise, and FIM Dash has Fireflys entire personality.

FIM is awesome but it is certainly not the first incarnation of MLP so some throw backs in the slightly older toys are to be expected until Hasbro clears its stock. In a few years it will all change again.

Fixed links are fixed.
If they never change I'll be as happy as anyone, but I still miss Windwhistler, Fizzy and Seaponies. /shrug

Re: Any Bronies up in here?
Seeing those links reminds me we (read: my little sister) had a my little pony video game that was actually quite fun (as well as owning a handful of ponies). I might see if we've still got it, although I've a feeling it might've been chucked with a selection of other old win95 era discs which were either out of date, incompatible with newer windows versions, or just kinda rubbish.

Re: Any Bronies up in here?
Every one of the mane cast suffers a psychotic break at some point during the season. Some last for a moment as a gag, others focus on it for an entire episode. Here's my theory on Pinkie Pie's psychotic break.
Pinkie Pie's biggest traits are her parties and being friends with everyone. She treasures her best friends amongst all else, and her parties are her best way of bringing them all together. If she didn't have friends, her life would crumble around her.
So when she falsely assumes that her friends don't like her parties and don't want to be her friends any more, to avoid completely breaking down, she strives to piece together her last threads of hope, by making friends of her own out of inanimate objects. I think her dependency on close social bonds and lively parties goes as far back as her childhood (as seen in Cutie Mark Chronicles), where she lives a dull monotone life on a rock farm with no friends.
As for the psychotic side, I'd say that's mostly played for laughs. Ponies snapping are common amongst the mane six though.
- Applejack, a dependable and hard worker, overworks herself to the point where she's harming the town.
- Rainbow Dash, the overly confident and fearless, gets stage fright and postpones her entry.
- Rarity suffers complete humiliation from her life's work being dismissed by the likes Hoity Toity and wallows in her own misery.
- Twilight loses complete control over the parasprite situation and strives desperately to come up with a plan, despite its ludicrous premise.
- And finally, Fluttershy breaks down into a screaming clingy rage because she's gotten so used to animals loving her that she can't understand why these would avoid her. She got so overly excited that she failed to notice that it was night and they were trying to sleep.
Addendum: Cupcakes, as insane as it may portray Pinkie Pie (I've not read it to preserve my sanity), is non-canon. Read it if you like and make your own interpretation, but it's not a legible explanation for Pinkie Pie's behaviour in the show.

Re: Any Bronies up in here?
Okay I've finally watched the first couple of episodes. And Pinkie Pie is the outright best. Why? She pours an entire bottle of chilli sauce on a cupcake and eats it without flinching! My kind of pony
