Weird Realizations

Postby Arius » 27 Apr 2011, 01:12

This is a thread to share the weird truths that you never really thought about but now you can't stop.

I have a skull. Less than a centimeter below my skin lies my skull. I never really thought about it as my skull. It was always just my head. But below my beautiful hair, skin, and muscle lies a skull just like any other.

I know it's obvious, but that's the point. You're never really aware of your skull.

This is just below your flesh.

1) Everyone has a particular scent. Or more accurately, a particular collection of scents. It's pretty much unique to them alone.

2) Trees and other plants are essentially living bits of earth. They're comprised on the same elements and minerals as rocks and soil. And what's weirder, so are we animals - the main difference being that we can move at a faster pace.

3) The candy coating of M&Ms? Made from beetle shells. Similarly, gelatin? Animal protein, often coming from scraps and bones. Jello is a meat product.

4) We live in a culture of binary concepts. Things either are something, or they are not - we can't conceptually allow them to be both. Unless you look at Buddhism and Daoism, or other similar philosophies...

5) I'm still 97.65% human, and that's using the most negative interpretations possible.

Binary logic, a system built on 1 and 0 alone, can build systems to unravel the entire universe.

All people are acting on the own selfishness.... if you are helping people you are doing it for the satisfaction that brings, there exist no selfless people... this is the greatest flaw in humans, because it makes it so very easy to become bad people.... this is also the our biggest attribute, because it makes us easy to control by better people. (pretty much a pruduckt of my own life wiew that i slowly build over the year and when i was 20.... boom, it all feel into place)

This is actually the realization that made me start the thread.

When you put clothes on, you forget your flesh is still there just below the surface.

Maybe I should change this to the "Happy Go Lucky Thread"

Everything you do will indirectly kill someone, somewhere.

Example:
That apartment you got? Prevented someone else from getting it. They had to live somewhere else. They have to drive a different route to work than if they lived there. They stop by a coffee shop near their house and flirt with the barista. Flirting turns to dating turns to love. Their child grows up to go to law school. He becomes a prosecutor, but loses an important case due to a technicality. This creates a loophole that allows an abusive man go free in a future case. That man is free to get drunk and slap his wife around. One day, he hits her too hard and she ends up in a coma. A month later, she's taken off life support.

A woman dies because you wanted an apartment close to the park, selfish bastard.

Watching New Dominion Tank Police 15 years ago led me to Loading Ready Run. With out the forum I would be more introverted than normal.

Everybody poops.

There are times in the day when the Queen of England is sitting on the royal throne and staring at the wall, just pooping away.

Angelina Jolie, Barack Obama, Matt Wiggins, Fabio, everybody poops.

Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace! [/portal 2]

I always had this odd idea in my head that people could easily see the word in a much different hue than you do (i.e. your blue is their red) and there'd be no way to tell. There's no way to explain colour without a comparison to something existing.

Well, while arguably we can't measure perceptions of the wavelengths themselves, we do know there are some rather freaky things to do with color.

For example, black and white images contain all the necessary information to be reproduced in color. The shades of gray and the variance between them produces a remarkably accurate map of colors. This is also why certain spinning optical illusions using only black lines and curves on a white background can produce the perception of colors.

Freaky.

I ONLY JUST NOW realized that Lord Crusher is actually Lord CHrusher.

Years and years, and never saw that. Holy moley.

Thanks to him, I now have trouble when I actually want to write "crusher". Fortunately, that doesn't come up often.

As Steven Fry explained on QI, anyone above the age on 10 is a totally different person biologically, having shed and replaced all their original cells.

I'm litterally not the person I once was.
