the "my neck of the woods" thread
post pics of your town and a breif description
I am from a small town in the north east of england called barnard castle (named for the large castle it is built around) it has another french gorgian style castle which is now a museum and many other bits and bobs, oh yeah and the castle has been besiged 3 times and burnt down once (when it was made of wood)

Pittsburgh, PA, where we have our own language: http://www.pittsburghese.com/
"Yinz all go dahntahn to Pants'n'at n' laugh at those jagoffs who all aren't listenin' ta Dahnny Iris..."
In the midst of 3 rivers, Pittsburgh has the second most bridges of any city in the world, trailing only Venice, Italy. We also get more rain annually than Seattle.

Here's a picture I took of downtown Toronto from Toronto Island.
It's amazing how the CN Tower messes with the scale of the skyline like that.

The Brutalist home to the math nerds on my university's campus, and easily where I spend 7+ hours of my school days, when I'm at school.

Actually the only American city with a bigger population than London is New York City, standing at 8.2 million to London's 7.5 million. Next up in the US is Los Angeles with under 4 million.

Here are the buildings I spend most of my life in while at uni:
Science Building.
Non-Science-Non-Art Except sometimes Science or Art Building ... It contains mostly math offices but it's basically just lecture space.
Here is where I spend most of my life while not in uni but in my uni town:
Chen's chinese food restaurant. It's great. The food never tastes the same way twice. You should go there. And buy me lunch.
Here are some photos I took while there:
Gazebo.
Behind the gazebo.
Perimeter Institute with a dude on the roof. Silly Physicist, y u no come down?
Behind Dreamer's old residence.
Here's where all the busses go in my home town slash where I'm currently living:
And here's a few shots of my district:
Please don't stalk me.

Re: the "my neck of the woods" thread
Yeah, London's really quite a large city. And is also my home. Well, the suburbs of it are. I technically in the county of Surrey, and in the borough of Sutton. Suttons kind of a boring place. The thing is, I don't really have a hometown. My closet 'town' is Cheam, but it all blends into one big urban sprawl, with groups of shops connected by houses. I'm near ish the edge though. Couple of miles and you get fields and hills and such.

I live in Leeds, England. It's something like the third biggest city in the UK, but other than that it's just another city.
Apart from the Dalek. I struggle to see it, but everyone else can apparently.

Birkenhead UK
Most notable thing is the Mersey ferry made famous by the song.
Generally just a spectacular example of a northern British towns fall due to de-industrialisation, at its peak Birkenhead would have been a full fledged city had it not been in sight of Liverpool then the worlds biggest and busiest port.
aerial shot over the Mersey
Trivia accuracy entirely based on my memory
We had the first public park which was the inspiration for new york central park.
The "women and children first rule of the sea originated from Birkenhead.
We have the worlds oldest scout group the 2nd Birkenhead founded 24/01/1908 all older groups have since closed.
That submarine that you Canadians are having trouble with and spending way too much money on HMCS Windsor yeah... we built that.

Re: the "my neck of the woods" thread
Hazelbrook is in the middle of the Blue Mountains, around 90km west of the Sydney CBD. There's a decent sized shopping centre, a primary school, general practice, railway station and a science and puzzles place called Selwood. (I didn't take any of the following. The only pictures of the town centre we have are around 10 years old. )
That picture of the station is out-of-date; the embankment on the left is no longer there and the trees on the platform have been replaced.
New walkway on the western end of Hazelbrook.
Traffic can be a bit of a pain through here at the moment, due to the roadworks currently widening the Great Western Highway from 2 to 4 lanes. On the bight side, road access to the railway station has been made a lot easier through the addition of the underpass at Oaklands Road.
