"Necomimi, as the toy is called, uses sensors to measure brainwaves, and the cat's ears perk up or flatten accordingly."

I don't know what to say really... it's a cat-ear headset controlled by brainwaves...

"The price of the product has not yet been set, but potential buyers are all ears." oh the pun...

Awww!
But it only really seems to go up and down. Where's the 'what's that behind me?!', the 'I'm loving this cheek rub' and the ever famous 'I'M A SNAKE, I'M A SNAKE, LOOK, MY TAIL IS FLICKING AND I'M ALL HISSING AND STUFF!'?

Wasn't there a toy like this a while ago, jedi-mind trainer or something?

I wonder how similar they are?

I was thinking this too. Just up and down doesn't really correlate with cat emotions.

From what I've read, it's dependent on how hard you're concentrating on something. Concentrate, and ears go up. Don't concentrate and ears go down.

Also, isn't there a robotic tail out there?

Funny that no one has brought up the question if Tally or Kathleen will be getting a pair each for a future Desert Bus.

Yeah, I ran into these a little while back, I have a friend who will definitely end up getting it.

I ma very curious about how they work. I was under the impression it isn't terribly easy to get any kind of useful readings through the skull without carefully placed and well held electrodes, so I suppose it probably just is based on some kind of total level of activity or something of the sort, rather than anything precise, so it probably won't correlate very well to actual emotions (cause we don't understand them very well yet anyway, even in the context of more precise equipment)

Still. Super interesting. Starting to see the first forays of neuroscience into consumer technology. Which I'm especially glad to see what with my college studies pointing me towards neural engineering.

Neural readings have gotten a lot easier recently, with products like Neurowave opening up brain-controlled devices for the masses, I've seen a few hack projects incorporating "mind control" of things.

We are so obviously living in the future, when brain reading devices aren't being used for amazing medical advances.

They're toys for people who like cats too much.

We'll be obviously living in the future when we're using brain reading devices to control our iPads.
