If you're a test driver for a Russian owned F1 team, you're going to have a bad time. And I do hope she's wearing that shirt when she get's out of hospital.

If she does wear that shirt upon hospital release (and entering the public eye) my estimation of her cannot help but go up.

Fifty shades of grey isn't all that many shades.
I mean, you could cover that with six bits of memory.
The Imposter is definitely a real thing, but my friend is a physicist and Big Bang Theory was actually pretty popular in his workplace. Perhaps the show got worse over time, or does damage to other kinds of nerd? I've never seen it.

Re: For the lols
The big bang theory portrays archetypes which many geeks are opposed to because they consider themselves individual intellectuals, and or it hits too close to home.
Many of my acquaintances that hate it, hate it primarily because "not all geeks are scientists who go to comic book stores." I think its funny, and I really think its funny that different groups of people categorize me as different people. In the Army they said I was absolutely Sheldon because I am anti-social and so smart that they accept that I might know what im talking about but that they dont think it relates to whats going on now. My geeky group of friends say im Leonard because I can talk to and relate to people who aren't super geeks and I have been in more than one relationship.

From Chainsawsuit (Kris Straub):
i’m really excited about this sitcom i’m pitching to the networks. i haven’t worked out all the details yet, but i’ve got four main characters:
- shelby: a grad student who’s a star wars or whatever fan. he is a student and also has eight degrees in theoretical laser science or whatever, something super nerdy
- apok: an ethnic nerd, you know, one of those guys
- binary: another phd super-genius, but all his dialogue is just modem sounds
- lacey: a hot blonde who gets all the nerds hot and bothered and saying things like “if you were a vulcan, i’d sonic screwdriver your cylons,” i don’t know, i’ll hire someone to get that stuff right

I'm an astrophysticst and I like The Big Bang Theory as do several of my colleagues. The charactors are charactertures but do contain some elements of truth. However the show is very much a network sitcom.

If it weren't for the laugh track I might find it kinda amusing. Still not a great show by a long shot.

Re: For the lols
It annoys me that my 'normal' co-workers insist that, because I'm a trivia geek and fairly 'into' nerd culture, that I *must* love and watch BBT; not a lot, but a little, yeah. It's pretty good, but it's STILL TV. :/

Re: For the lols
If I had any talent for writing comedy I would write a show about four scientists. If I tried doing it now I would just rehash incidents from my own experience which might not the best idea since I am several years away from having a permanent job. There would be more than a bit of Piled Higher and Deeper and The Big Bang Theory thrown in there as well.

This. Forever this.

You would be surprised how wrong you could be. It's just really sad without the laugh track.

I have been thinking along the same lines lately.... (except not a physics lab, obviously)

Maybe replacing the long silences with the actual sound would make the point better? Lots of comedies easily get by with no laugh track.

Re: For the lols
The problem is that pausing for laughs changes the pacing of the show. Comedies with no laugh track or studio audience can make more jokes, more quickly (a la Arrested Development), so simply dropping off the laugh bit of a sitcom just makes things awkward. And sad, as you say.

Re: For the lols
The actual content of the jokes is pretty bad too. The jokes are nearly all deprecatory. If nerds were a race, this show would be racist.
