If you are hearing a high pitched hum, this is perfectly ordinary. The CRT display works because of the high flow rate of electrons striking the display screen, and this does produce sounds near the upper limit of human hearing. Not every human has exactly the same range of human hearing, and thus it is possible that even if we try to make the sound inaudible, it still may be audible to some.
We didn't make it 10 times the upper limit of human hearing, because that would require unnecessary technology, redundant re-displays, and typical frame rates and pixel counts do not demand that high of electron striking frequencies.
As you get older, your sensitivity to high frequencies decreases, and the high-pitched hum becomes less perceivable to you.
