Worse. Oyashrio-sama just kills two per year. GRRM kills two per page.

I mean George R.R. Martin took Fantasy to a better place than Twitlight... but, Game of Thrones isn't quite Narnia though.

I'll resume watching Daenerys:The Movie and Arya: The Movie on Youtube.

Oyashiro-sama kills more than two in certain arcs.

Strictly speaking, they don't actually kill anyone. :P

I never really get jokes like this because moffatt is actually terrible at killing characters. He keeps bringing them back, moreso than Martin or Rowling (both of whom are guilty if this as well)

Yeah, I read an article a while ago that deconstructs the "Martin, Whedon, and Moffat walk into a bar and all your favourite characters die" joke. Basically, the article talked about how Moffat doesn't seem to understand grief or how to effectively use it - he keeps nullifying any moments that would be truly heartbreaking.

Take a look at the Angels. They're a great villain for a spooky episode, but at the end of the day, getting caught by one is hardly the end of the line for you. Is being sent back to 1920s New York where you live out your life with your spouse, adopt a kid, and die at an old age really supposed to be heartwrenching or grief-inducing.

Compare to Whedon and how he kills off characters. He will make you cry over them.

I think i read the same article! Really interesting.

This is hardly the right thread for this sort of discussion, but I have opinions about killing off characters. I think both Moffatt and martin are actually quite bad at it for opposite reasons. Someone like Rowling or Jordan(/Sanderson) do the job quite well I think.

I was actually going for the JKR/GRRM image then I saw the extra moffat one and just decided to go with that one.

I do like the image of the books with the pages with character deaths marked out :D

Rowling did it sparingly enough that when a character that when she killed a character she had made you care about, it did come as a bit of a shock. When, as in the last book, the body count started stacking up and their deaths glossed over, it was a deliberate counterpoint to the rest of the series to emphasize that this was then end, and times were changing.

With Martin, you just come to expect that every character is going to die, and accept their deaths long before they actually happen. Granted though, his style is also a deliberate counterpoint, just to the fantasy genre as a whole.

exactly, which is also something Robert Jordan did very well.

You people with your George Jar Jar Martins, and and your loljk Rowling. I get the sinking suspicion that none of you have read Gantz.

Decimate pesky house pests? so its only 10% effective? seems like a lot of work for 90% of the pests to still be peskying and pesting.

I dunno, it says it decimates each house fly. I imagine removing one-tenth of a fly would be somewhat effective in stopping it.
