Today I had my last exam at Uni, possibly ever, and now I hope I did well enough to graduate.

So, yay!

Does anyone have a GIF of fireworks that can be set off in celebration?

So, I just killed off the "mentor" character in my novel. It's a Hero's Journey/Origin story, so this is effectively the climax of the book. So, on one hand... Yay! Only one chapter left to write.

But man, that was a hard chapter to write. A really tough scene to set up, describe, and execute. And as it turns out, the death itself occurs almost off-handedly, which surprised me when I wrote it.

Truly a weird writing experience. I'm also out of juice for tonight, so we'll see how the writing go tomorrow.

I know exactly where you're coming from, MisterDee. My first novel has a couple really heavy bits, and one in particular (a flashback to a particularly traumatic experience in the main character's life) really put my head in a weird state for the rest of the day. And my current project has a super creepy character, and writing some of his scenes has been really unsettling.

But I take it as a good sign that my writing is going well when it affects me that much to write it. Congratulations on (almost) reaching the end, by the way!

So, my store just started playing Christmas music today.

This is kinda good, actually - it breaks with the whole now-cliche habit of corporations to rush from one 'sales event' to the next.

Also this has the advantage of only a week of the 'seasonal tunes' before Xmas itself, and I'd likely not be sick of them by even New Year's.

...but the build-up to this was very slightly nerve-wracking; ever since about Dec.1, I've been going into work wondering "is this the day it starts?" I've been waiting for more than two weeks for 'the other shoe to drop' and it's been a tiny bit unsettling. Well, at least the wait is over. :)

So was it like a festive dread of "dropping the seasonal beat"?

In Debenhams they have the right idea. They mix in current shite-pop amongst their shite-Christmas music.

Well I was planning on doing a Mass Effect Marathon, but instead I'm doing work for the neighbouring council, basically phoning schools and askng "If you can this information to us by tomorrow, that'd be greaaaat..."

Image

Basically that.

But in general, I have no idea. I'm considering if I want to do a masters, but I don't know if I can really motivate myself to do 2 more years of study; the other possibility is maybe do teacher training. But in all honesty I have no idea.

So uhhh, if anyone needs a spare person to do something, I'm kinda free.

Yes, as long as it's sung by [Sailor Moon].

Oh, hey - don't get me wrong; I LOVE the spirit that Christmas music instills! :)

It's just...there's not as large a selection for that, and repetition increases and...well, you've heard the aphorism "familiarity breeds contempt"? Well, listening to the same twenty songs (half of which are covers) for three to four weeks straight, and yeah - you get REALLY fucking familiar with them. ;)

"If this brat is such a good damn drummer boy, then WHY do 'the ox and lamb (have to) keep time'?!? Huh??? ANSWER ME THAT! You CAN'T, CAN YOU? THAT'S WHY THIS ****ing song is ****ing **** and anyone that ****ing well records a ****y cover of the ****ing stupid song is a idiot and a *****!"

(Seriously; every second song on the playlist that year was someone's cover of LDB - I even heard Bing and Bowie so much that I got sick of THEIR wonderful original cover! :( )

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this is my idea of Christmas music.

That or Fairytale of New York, my piano version of which has been being fiddled around with since the start of September.

Speaking of Christmas music, I've been listening to this a fair bit recently.
