...sweet creamery butter - the Scrubs writers have hit a nerve with me; I've stopped doing almost anything else with my free time but watch episodes.
On the plus side, I've gotten pretty good at playing mahjong with only a tiny bit of my attention.

Re: The General Chat thread
I LOVE Scrubs. It's one of my favorite shows. I just wish they didn't keep it going long after it was intended to end. After they kicked Bill Lawrence to the curb, it was all downhill.
Having shed fat, it's still seven years of brilliant television. Not just comedy, either. Scrubs can do drama, romance, and tension better than the show it is ostensibly parodying (Grey's Anatomy). I did one of Dr. Cox's rants for my monologue in my high school drama class, too.

Re: The General Chat thread
John C. McGinley is one of my fave actors, period.
And now I've found my favourite role he's likely ever going to perform.
Sucks to hear about the creator (and likely the heart of the show) getting pushed out, since it seems that the initial writing is RIGHT UP MY ALLEY.
And fun fact regarding "Perry's Perspective #2" - we're ready and waiting

I forget which season it was, but it was either seven or eight that ended with "My Finale" and had all the hallmarks of a series finale...and then they gave the creator the boot and made it keep going. That finale brought me to tears and they stomped all over it to make it go longer.
All the rage. I have it.

Re: The General Chat thread
I fucking love Scrubs! The show marries humor and wisdom in a way that's just perfect. Some of my biggest lessons on life have come from that show. And this all while discussing topics that actual doctors have to deal with (like death, blaming yourself as a doctor, what being a doctor means outside of work etc.)
Cherry on the top: Most of the medical talk in Scrubs is accurate (or at least only ever bended slightly to fit a specific story detail). They had medical consultants on the show to make sure of this and the main characters are actually named after them.
I watched a few episodes with some doctor friends of mine and they confirmed they got it right quite a lot.

I've watched some of the earlier series of scrubs, enjoyed it a lot and then just stopped watching for some reason.
I should get back on that at some point.

Re: The General Chat thread
Actually just the last one. I checked. "My Finale" was season eight. Skip nine. Most of the cast leaves after the end of season eight, it moves from Sacred Heart to a medical school, and all the new characters are annoying as shit.

Re: The General Chat thread
I actually didn't mind season nine so much, and found it rather refreshing. Mainly because I hated JD by the end of season eight. I've never being a fan of the "petulant man-child" trope, and that's all JD was by that point. For the last three seasons, every bit of character development seems to stop or get rolled back for him, so he will stay the personification of that trope.

I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

I still haven't watched the spin-off (because, at least from my understanding, it is NOT another season of the same show. It is a spin-off that they refused to classify as such). Not because I think it'll be bad. But because I just don't care. They ended the series. And they ended it damn well. They tied up the loose ends without sealing the fun parts (like the Janitor's name).
That said, someone should have lit the Scrubs signal, as it's still my all-time favorite show. It's the one show that I honestly grew up on. So... yea. I like it. I like it a LOT.
For the seasons thing, I think that most of the seasons were pretty solid. I feel like seasons six and seven were kind of the low points of the series. I agree with Gunner that, at that point, JD had just turned into a man-child stereotype. There were still a decent chunk of good episodes, and I feel it was 'eh' at worst. But there was certainly problems with it.
Season eight kind of helped with that. I feel like season eight helped bring back JD's character from just a child to more of a person. He has to start taking responsibility. All of the characters feel like they 'grow up' without losing their quirks. Which is good, because it makes the finale all the stronger. That walk down the hall at the end... so good.
Still, my all-time favorite episode is still in season three. The one episode that got me into the show after randomly seeing it on TV. It was a pretty funny episode with a strong punch in the gut at the end. And after seeing the rest of the season, they didn't just sweep it under the rug either. They showed the fallout that it caused.
*cough* But I'm just nerding out. I'd say the first three seasons are easily worth checking out. From there, if you like it, the rest episodes are normally fair at worst. But expect a bit of a dip overall.

I would also say get the soundtrack, particularly to the first season, there's some excellent songs there.
Also, hi. I'm back from the Edinburgh festival. Aaaaand back at work as of 4 minutes from now, with the Fringe lurgy. I'm swaying rather alarmingly, its like being drunk but without all that delicious alcohol.

I agree on the soundtrack thing. Both of them (the non-musical ones) are pretty solid. It's just too bad that getting the soundtrack for the musical episode costs 5x as much as just, you know, buying the episode.

You're going to be okay
That's what's going to happen
Everything's okay
We will never leave you
Right here we will stay
Plan for tomorrow
Because we swear to you
It's going to be okay
SO GOOD! I think it's time for another marathon.

Re: The General Chat thread
Tonight, I'm paradoxily happy about my team losing.
We're ranked stone bottom of the Football League, and we managed to take a team exactly 80 places above us to a penalty shoot-out, which we then lost 7-6. But I couldn't be prouder of the boys. We scored an Own Goal early on, held to prevent the scoreline becoming worse, and then scored in the last minuets to take into extra time. We even got a man sent off, but we still managed to hang on.
And that's why I love football. Even when your team is literally the current worse League team, you can still find those moments where you nearly overturn all the odds.

Re: The General Chat thread
So, because Lawrence actually came back to judge a film-fest of ours (his comment on our film, wherein a leprechaun beat a man to death "Disturbing, but memorable), I feel I should mention that he as an William and Mary alum, and he actually dropped hints about it in the show. Whenever JD and Turk are shown in flashbacks to their undergraduate years, various little props, sets and costume hints suggest that they themselves are at William and Mary.

Apparently Hello Kitty is not a cat.
Y'know, I'm actually surprised by this news...not that it's that important in the grand scheme of things, but someday this could be the answer to a grand prize on a quiz somewhere. So it's always nice to know.

Somehow my brain swapped Marcel Duchamp for Michel Foucault. I'm not sure if that's more or less interesting.

Re: The General Chat thread
I do love funny coincidences. Those very weird events that coincide with two things to produce something highly unlikely.
I find it funny that last year in World of Warcraft I wanted to roll a Tauren Paladin again with the pun on "bull". So I went to a rhyming website and entered "bull".
The name I ended up choosing was "Abull" because it felt right.
Then I don't know how sooner after. Maybe within the same week, I get invited by my sister to a social gathering where this "new person" to my sister's group from Catalonia called "Abel" (Her group pronounced it "Able"), was cooking food for them. You can look into these things in anyway. But it's always funny.

Re: The General Chat thread
It's weird after so many years of keeping my emotions and thoughts towards people quiet, to suddenly realise it's okay to be honest in emails.
In real life you have the luxury of body language or facial expressions or tone of voice to convey what you think and feel. E-mail you have cold text. Text without context of you.
It's so easy to spew cliche tripe to fill the void of your e-mail, instead of saying what you truly mean.
Yay for liberation.
