Re: The General Chat thread
With any such thing, once you get into the routine of thinking up something then drawing it, it becomes second nature because the neural pathways required for that form of creativity get stronger. Basically, creativity is like a muscle, the more you use it, the more you can use it.
There are a few good ones that manage a daily schedule: Questionable content, xkcd, smbc and sinfest spring to mind.
Userfriendly and sluggyfreelance might have kept up the content quality, I gave up reading them when the backstory required to understand the context for each strip became encyclopedic.

Re: The General Chat thread
XKCD is not daily.
One that is, though, is Schlock Mercenary.

Re: The General Chat thread
The only daily release I ever liked was Girls With Slingshots, and that ended some weeks ago (Danielle's now releasing old strips in color, and I can't be arsed read the whole thing all over again). QC has that car crash allure of "how bad is this going to get". So does CAD, though that's not daily scheduled.
Re: The General Chat thread
I've just finished (and emailed) an abstract for a research project at my uni. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, GWS was a treasure. And it's really fantastic to watch her and Erika Moen be friends on twitter. I keep forgetting about Sinfest because the RSS stopped working. It's so good, though.
And yeah, QC has that problem. I stopped reading for a while because of it, then caught up and it seemed to be going alright... and then things got unfortunate again. I keep reading for the good stuff, but I'm afraid he'll start making characters miserable again.

I agree, the serious drama stuff seems completely out of place in such a usually good humoured strip. I still like it for the lighter stuff.

Re: The General Chat thread
I heard we were talking about webcomics.
I think at this point I'm contractually obligated to plug Loading Artist. It's consistently fun with humour that sorta drifts around between "Python-esque", dark comedy, and the mildly absurd. There's also a few strips dealing with the main character working through some depression and coming out the other side a stronger person (just like it happened to him in real life). The art itself is exceptionally well done (maybe not the first few comics though... "early days" and all that), and now that he's making the comic full time, updates are coming out a lot more regularly than when he had a "proper" job... not quite once a week, but definitely in that region.
I also recommend you stop by the store link at the top, if you don't already have your fill of comedy t-shirts courtesy of LRR.

Is it wrong that that the Britain's Got Talent Judge Amanda Holden reminds me of Cersei Lanister?

Re: The General Chat thread
I met another Runner IRL on Sunday! Well, I say met- I knew them previously, but the LRR connection wasn't made evident until I started complaining about the 'bussing smoke up my nostrils'. A fellow Magic-er and re-enactor to boot. First time this kinda thing has happened to me- LRR are clearly spreading...

Re: The General Chat thread
For the second time, somebody commented on my Desert Bust 8 t-shirt on Sunday, leading to a few long LRR stuff discussions. It is such an odd thing when I'm not really expecting it, or I forget that I'm wearing the t-shirt/hoodie in question.
I'm also QuintonDreaming. Stupid username availability prevents me from always being an Icelandic volcano.

So I was resting on my bed... Just trying to relax, but not sleep, because I had some stuff to do later... My DB6 poster spontaneously fell off my wall for no reason and whacked me in the face... Don't think I can relax now...

Re: The General Chat thread
Talking to angry people on the internet seems to be helping me work out why some people are atheists.

Re: The General Chat thread
Funny, talking to angry people on the internet helps me understand why some people turn to a higher power.

... Actually, I intended that as a joke, essentially saying "These angry people annoy me so much I feel like turning to a higher power to ask for help."
In hindsight, not my best joke, and I think I misinterpreted what you said earlier.

Re: The General Chat thread
I think both meanings are true.
I had to add an extra word to what I said originally because I realized what I typed didn't say what I meant. It swept.

Re: The General Chat thread
You know everyone goes on about the Wilhelm scream? Does anyone know the name of the sound clip of children laughing that was in the intro to diddy kong racing? I hear it in so many tv shows and films, yet no one ever seems to call anyone on it.

Re: The General Chat thread
It seems it's actually called the "diddy laugh". And you're not the only person annoyed by it. See here for example for a large collection of movies and clips containing it.

A friend of mine is in the final of Britain's Got Talent.
If you know basic statistics, you can work out which act they're in.

You know my cousin Josh, who has cancer? I was able to stream a game with him while he's in the hospital. He's doing well and should be out in about 2 weeks.

Don't call it a comb-back. I'll have hair for years.

Re: The General Chat thread
So I've recently started listening to Serial the podcast (I know, I'm late to the party) and it's suuuuuper addicting. I was kind of wondering if any of you has listened to it or has any recommendations on good podcasts for me?

Re: The General Chat thread
Rob Paulsen's Talkin' Toons(Rob Paulsen talking about voice acting, often people he's worked with, such as Maurice LaMarche; it's on iTunes and Techjives) and the LRRcasts are the only podcasts I listen to with any regularity.
(By the way, anyone else notice that the 2009-05-31(Stand-Up Guy) and 2009-09-02(cH episode 5: Street) LRRcasts have their year marked as -0001, and are listed at the very end of the list of LRRcasts?)
