Re: The General Chat thread
Lot of caffeine. Shouting at the screen, because this guy's making facile arguments over and over again, as though repetition can take the place of cogent reasoning. I wouldn't care so much if he knew how grammar works.
I need to remember that he cannot hear me, no matter how loud I shout.
I want to get really passive aggressive in the comments I leave on his paper, but I can't, in case I can convince him to give us repeat business.

Is it an internet argument? Because those are never worth fighting, seriously. People can be real trolls sometimes. A word of advice: don't let him drag you in. Don't be a drama llama.

Ptang is proofreading and editing the guy's academic paper - he's being PAID to be drug in.

Ohhh! Well, in that case... good luck with that, mate (pats on the back)

Re: The General Chat thread
Yeah. 3500 words of frankly rubbish anti-nuclear rhetoric. I could argue his side better than him, and I disagree with it.
Fortunately I've got Thursday and Friday off.
Anyhoo, not to lead the chat by the nose too blatently, but does anyone have a link to that pre DB prank the guys did where they shrinkwrapped a fake box of magic cards?
Oh, also I blasted some Offspring since no one else was in the office to vent, then had a good drink when I got home. I make a point of not getting dragged into internet arguments. Generally pointless, thank you for the advice though.

But pointless arguments can be some of the best ones! I just spent close to an hour arguing the logistics of a man permenently pulled sideways by gravity with friends, t'was awesome.
Totally accurate, except for all the times I'm not.

I got dragged into a Russian Homophobia arguement.
I'm still "ignoring" "discussion" updates to this day.

Now I need the video of Russian Homophobe being sent a can of club soda. For research, of course

Re: The General Chat thread
Quick, weird, off-topic question, but is anyone else into classic literature? I'd like people to chew the literary fat with, and this town is a break-you town and a bring-you-down town.
It's all over but the crying. And the taxes.

The closest I ever got to the classics was LoTR
Also:
My best friend and I always end up discussing quantum physics and its implications for time travel, especially when blind drunk. One of our best bits is to point at a random spot on the floor, or innocuous object and go "You see that? Right there? THAT is the EXACT dead centre of the universe" Since we're in a (off the top of my head, sorry if I'm wrong or even right, but recently disproved) 11 dimensional torus, so technically every three dimensional point in the Universe is the exact middle (As an example, what spot on Earth is the exact centre of the surface? All of it (a 2D question of a 3D object))

Re: The General Chat thread
I'm now in a stupid argument about Minecraft Rollercoasters not being true roller coasters.
Where the arse hole's reasoning why it's still a roller coaster is that because it's in Minecraft, it MAGICALLY gets to ignore the rules of classification.
Evidently, Squid are amphibious since they can survive breathing air.

wikipedia wrote:The cars on a typical roller coaster are not self-powered. Instead, a standard full circuit coaster is pulled up with a chain or cable along the lift hill to the first peak of the coaster track. The potential energy accumulated by the rise in height is transferred to kinetic energy as the cars race down the first downward slope. Kinetic energy is then converted back into potential energy as the train moves up again to the second peak. This hill is necessarily lower, as some mechanical energy is lost to friction.
Not all rides feature a lift hill, however. The train may be set into motion by a launch mechanism such as a flywheel launch, linear induction motors, linear synchronous motors, hydraulic launch, compressed air launch or drive tire. Such launched coasters are capable of reaching higher speeds in a shorter length of track than those featuring a conventional lift hill. Some roller coasters move back and forth along the same section of track; these are known as shuttles and usually run the circuit once with riders moving forwards and then backwards through the same course.
Evidently, Squid are amphibious since they can survive breathing air.

Just saw the new RoboCop movie. It's fun, just not funny. And I'm sick of every action movie having a mandatory Middle East scene these days.
Re: The General Chat thread
No mandatory inception bwaas?

By Allentine's Day you mean Valentine's day?
Re: The General Chat thread
I avoid Valentine's like the plague. You don't need to spend one day a year telling someone you love them, you don't need to go buying overpriced bullshit to show them you love them and you DEFINITELY don't need to go encouraging Hallmark.
It's pure marketing. I'd not do Christmas either but then people still buy me shit and I am honour-bound to reciprocate.
