"The Chief" will always have your ass in a sling.
If something didn't work once, you should never ever try it again.

The police force as an organisation is ineffective. The only reliable sources of justice are pairs of mismatched officers that have had their guns and badges permanently confiscated... for the duration of the case.

The Army are always the bad guys. Unless the show is about the army, in which case the generals and above are the bad guys.

A strip of cloth over the eyes renders anyone unrecognizable, regardless of hair, head shape, voice, expressions or any other subtle or not-so-subtle factors that would be easily spotted by those passingly familiar with a subject. In some circumstances a pair of spectacles will suffice.

Taxis are always nearby and on-duty should someone suddenly decide to hire one.
People always leave their car keys hidden between the sun visor and the roof of the cabin.
Cars never need refueling or other maintenance, unless getting stranded out of gas/broken down advances the plot.

Any situation can be made 500% more awesome by the inclusion of Wil Wheaton (post-TNG).
The person who is correct will always be the person no one listens to.
The one who done it is always among the first three people the detective heading the investigation talks to before the crime takes place.

Re: What has TV taught you?
Lately? All TV has taught me is that the world just wants to obsess over the every-day life of celebrities, idiots, dirtbags, sluts and the shallow, pretentious, ultra-trendy. That no one wants to see a man act like a man anymore, but love it when they flail about like fourteen year old girls. That being irresponsible and screwing up your life will make people love and even look up to you, so long as you can get a camera crew to follow you around.
In short, TV has made me feel like an old dinosaur that just doesn't belong in this time. Which is odd for a tech-obsessed IT guy.

You're watching the wrong shows! It sounds like you're watching reality television. Stop that this instant! It will erode your soul. There's good stuff out there.

The prevalence of this trope drives me up the wall. It's a terrible cliche, it ruins all the suspense, and the inevitable "I TOLD YOU SO" "oh we should have listened to your wise counsel" scenes at the end are grating and make me want to punch a television.

I learned that friendship is magic.
Although I technically learned it from Youtube, not an actual television.

Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women.
Step 1:
When in doubt, remain absolutely silent.
Step 2:
When asked about your past give vague, open ended answers.
Step 3:
Have a great name.
Step 4:
Look fantastic in a suit
Looks fantastic in casual wear
Look fantastic in anything
Sound good
Smell good
Kiss good
Strut around with supreme confidence
Be uncannily successful at your job
Blow people away every time you say anything
Take six hour lunches
Disappear for weeks at a time
Lie to everyone about everything
Drink and smoke constantly
…basically be Don Draper

Wraith: Nerd, Siobhan: hot girlfriend/wife
Dreamer: Nerd, Aberguine: hot girlfriend
Program_IX: Nerd, Fayili: hot girlfriend
Graham: Nerd, Kathleen: hot girlfriend
Jer: Nerd, Tally: hot girlfriend
Should I go on?
Clearly, that one's true outside of TV. For various values of "nerd", at least. I know Graham would disagree with applying the label to most of the above list due to a lack of extreme social awkwardness with them, but the general point is the same.

Re: What has TV taught you?
You are an attractive person, by any measure. Also, you're in California, which is rather warm this time of year, which I'm sure makes you rather hot as well.
