I just bought a 55yr old 35mm film rangefinder....
A Kiev IIa, which is a Russian made Zeiss Contax IIa, as part of war payments. It's also what Nikon copied to make their S series
Also waiting for Photokina in september to see where the price of the D600 actually ends up being, to buy a DSLR.

New? That's a nice piece of glass. I want the 14-24 f/2.8 myself, but need a body first lol (F4 doesn't count)

Yes new. Lenses for work are not the things I buy used. I'd get the 14 - 24 if I could afford it, maybe in a couple years.

Well I spent today filling in all the paperwork for that island republic. It's such a pain to apply to be a dictator these days, once upon a time you just rocked up in a general's hat with some tinfoil medals pinned to your chest and they welcomed you with open hostility.

the 14-24 is cheaper than the 14 prime on Amazon o.O which is weird, but ya...I need a 35mm before I bother with an ultra wide...

Hrm, now I'm debating. I might do the 20mm instead. I think I can get a lot more use out of it and not hate myself when I put it in a dusty situation.

Depends on what you have in your bag. If you have a 24mm, I'd go 14mm, Have only a 35mm or 28mm I'd go 20mm.

Re: Damn you, Fiscal Irresponsibility Fairy! Damn you to Hel
I personally do not like 28 or 35mm. I find 50mm to be more useful. Could be why I have 6 of them ^.^
I def need a wide angle. I love wide angles, but I think the 14 mm will jsut be too much distortion for what I am using it for. I think 20 mm on a full frame will serve me well.

Re: Damn you, Fiscal Irresponsibility Fairy! Damn you to Hel
What would you be using the lens for. Purely landscapes or are you shooting scenes with people in them?
If it's landscapes I'd go with a 14. If it's shots of people and inside buildings, a 20 mm is going to get more use I think. 14 mm probably requires a lot of attention to placement, direction, making sure it's level, etc.

I knwo that which is why, even though I really want the delicous 14mm, I am probably going to end up with the 20

Re: Damn you, Fiscal Irresponsibility Fairy! Damn you to Hel
14mm seems ridiculously wide on a 35mm format, obviously it depends on what you'd use it for, but personally I can't really see myself ever needing something so wide (then again, I'm an amateur), even for landscapes it seems like distortion would be too much of a problem. Not to mention that the 14mm 2,8 is old hat, it was designed for the D1 (which is APS-C), and consequently doesn't really exhibit that great performance in the corners.
But yeah, mostly, 14mm is reaaally wiide, considered the 24mm?

What price were you looking at for the 14mm?
Why do you have 6 50mms?

Can someone please explain to me how my FIF talked me into spending £80 on Mass Effect 3, Lego Batman 2. Ghost Recon & Portal 2?

I personally am a fan of distortion. I know, photography faux pas! 24mm isn't wide enough for me. I think i've settled on the 20mm!

P.S, I just found the site Pixel Peeper and I am very happy with being able to view these things! I know I'm late to the party, but I figured I'd tell you guys about it if you hadn't already seen it.
