How much should I charge for building websites?

I'm planning on outsourcing websites, I'm currently building a simple business website, how much should I charge? I have no idea of the market since it is my first foray into the industry so I need a number I can base my price on.Please help me!

Also, I'd kinda like an answer to the spambot's question on my own behalf. I do genuinely want to start doing web design, and knowing a fair rate would be cool.

They can be pretty expensive. A lot of professionals take something like 500-600 quid, but when my boyfriend worked with webdesign for a while he did it for lower prices, like 200 quid.

It's really up to you. You can charge quite steep prices for webdesign, but there is nothing wrong or weird about charging less, even though I can understand the steep price when you often get customers who NEVER are satisfied.

Well, Mr. Jester. My rates usually hover in between 250-500 depending on the situation. The more professional the job, the more likely they have the funds to pay, so make sure you're not giving up money that they're willing to offer. If it's a smaller company, or something for people I know, I'll lower the rate, but a good base point is 300.

My brother is a "professional" web designer, and he charged $35/hour when he began as a "low rate" to build his portfolio. Once you get out of that phase it is anywhere from $50-65/hour I believe.

I reported this bot this morning, then went off to work (my report commented on how the crew SHOULD do a 'Secret Love' vid, since it's apparently popular with time-travelling bots .

When I saw the twelve replies to this, I got all "Implied Facepalm" over y'all feeding the troll, but when I peeked in here to read the posts...I'm impressed.

That's what I like about this community - something unwelcome STILL gets assimilated into the community. Kinda like it was impossible to troll <alt.fan.monty-python> a flood of threads about an HTML format guide, or pointlessly off-topic celeb news, or the like all just got adopted into suitably silly MP-esque discussion, as if it was SUPPOSED to be there.
