Looks like it was a big day for the Rebels, they took the last major town occupied by Gadaffi loyalists, captured and wounded Gadaffi, and now he's dead according to sources.
There are also photo's floating around the internet showing a dead body that might be him if anyone is hard of stomach.
It's a symbolic victory and NATO will probably lower their involvement now, but I really do wonder how difficult it's going to be to rebuild the nation.
Thoughts?

Only in this day and age can you get a photo/video of an evil dictator within 10-20 minutes of them being captured by their rebelling people.
I wonder what the Medieval times would have been like if they had camera phones and the internet.

Re: Gadaffi is (probably) dead
There were fewer people back then - you had pretty good odds of seeing that evil dictator's head sitting on a pike in person.
Good riddance to batshit crazy; he had had the charisma and power to keep the seven tribes from warring with each other, but lately he'd just been too much of unproductive burden to his people.
Now...it'd be NICE if we could work on North Korea, but that's not just a case of a batshit crazy leader, there's also an iron fist government in place there, and as far as I've been able to tell, that populace are (oddly) content with their circumstances...

Re: Gadaffi is (probably) dead
I am never comfortable with the celebration of someone's death.
Hopefully this means things will settle down and improve in Libya.

Is, I think, more accurate.

Yeah, but you're talking about the cause while I'm talking about the end result; not as much difference as it seems - still sucks.

Man, this is just not a good time to be a public enemy. First Bin Laden, now Gadaffi... They're dropping like flies. Soon we won't have any left.

This. However, I can honestly say my first reaction was saying, "Good".
Apparently people in Lockerbie are not so hot on this development, as they had lots of questions to ask the gentleman from Libya.

I don't celebrate the death of anyone but like Saddam and Bin Laden before him, I will not shed a tear.

I like my Libya, how I like my coffee; de-Gadaffi-nated.

Re: Gadaffi is (definitly) dead
I dunno; not glad he's dead, but wondering if this still might be a more merciful fate for him.
Because if you'd listen to his later speeches and that (which I caught up on when it looked like he'd be pitching his tent in town on a layover), he'd certainly seemed to have lost any meaningful link with reality. Maybe it was power or maybe he'd just contracted syphilis, but the man was lost in a world within his own mind.
I don't know what capture, trial and punishment (either execution or imprisonment) would be like to such a lost mind.
And yeah, I also...well, Andie , so I guess I don't fear death as much as everyone else, being a little more intimately acquainted with it.

replace the name bin-laden with the name Gadaffi and change a few details and that is basically my thoughts on the matter. Should have dragged him before the Hague and made him face the full force of international justice.
It's a worry trend that two international criminals have now been killed without trial. We need to preserve justice as independent from our guns.
