Re: Desert Bus
May I suggest getting a Sennheiser HD205 headphone for the sound check. That's what I use and I seem to be able to hear the hiss, crackle, static and pops very clearly.
I don't get this kind of thing from other audio sources, just the DB video.

My bose headphones were also picking up some crackle, only really noticeable when you guys weren't talking.

My Plantronic's were able to pick up the various hisses and crackles throughout.

Re: Desert Bus
What are the crew's contingency plans for if the US goes into hyperinflation during the drive, at the level of 7% per hour? Then Operation: Bus Forever would require only a constant influx of cash, not an exponential one...
More seriously, are there any plans to correct for inflation? Currently you're driving at least an extra hour compared to 2006, for the same amount of money donated in each year... for each 7% of inflation (compounded), you have to drive another hour for the same amount of real-terms money...
Though, thinking about it, the CPI is probably the wrong index to use... it should be rather the things the money is actually going to buy... games and toys for the childrens. Is there a government index of the prices of those that we could use?

Re: Desert Bus
I hate to divert the topic back to a topic already covered, but I just have a question about getting to chat via mIRC. I freshly downloaded it a week ago, and I'm trying to get set up and connected now.
What's the IRC server address? I tried irc.desertbus.org, though I just get
"* Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out)".
I vaguely recall using mIRC a lifetime ago, and remember that previous servers I visited had several different hosts which went in place of the 'irc' part. Could that be the case here?

LK told me that he wasn't going to be able to make it this year when I asked him on a squids play. I dunno if this is still true, but moving to america might be getting in the way.

Re: Desert Bus
Yeah, my money is on Wil Wheaton or JoCo, or someone of similar stature (Nathan Fillion?). Woody Tondorf has already said he'll be in town, so I don't think he could be considered an unconfirmed mystery guest. I'm excited to see who it is, though.
Re: Desert Bus
Wil Wheaton would be awesome at the helm, but I get the feeling he'd be a bit busy to take a whole 24 hours out of his schedule to bus around.
I could totally see him dropping in for a Skype though.

Re: Desert Bus
I think you're all shooting very high, at this point. Sorry!
There are many people we tried to get. Most of whom were game, but we had a lot of trouble arranging for them to actually get into town.
Wil, for example, is even in Seattle the weekend we start! But he can't swing the time. He's super busy.

Re: Desert Bus
Shooting too high, you say... Rosie O'Donnell!
Although if it had turned out to be Nathan Fillion all of my vital organs would explode from the awesome. Which would suck since I've grown rather attached to my vital organs. And then he would have come in while I was away for a day or something...

I will just continue to choose to believe that it's someone so awesome that they can't possibly be topped until I find out for sure.
