I suppose so, if I heard Graham saying in a podcast that he had been up until 21:00 editing I wouldn't be too impressed and from that perspective it makes things more complicated.

I guess I'll have to make do with the world clock app on my phone :P

time zones are useful but DST isn't.

If everyone listed their time zone are UT+/- X it would be verry usefull

basicly collapse the GMT acronym into Universal standard Time or UT then just + or - a number instead of EST central time mountain time ect. This plus the abolition of DST would make it all far simpler without impacting peoples daily lives.

it also fixes the international problem because its made into straight forward addition subtraction.

That's why I'll normally list my loc (when asked, of course) to be UTC-5 [UTC-4 in summer]. That's what your getting at, right?

yeah though I think the acronym for UTC, UST ect can just be UT works in more languages and on more standards. It also sets it apart from all the three letter acronyms of country specific timezones

Actually the whole point behind the acronym UTC is that it ISN'T an acronym. UTC stands for both Coordinated Universal Time and Temps Universel Coordonné.

It's worth noting that there is already a UT, and it is different from UTC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Time

Also the name UTC fits other 'universal times' such as UT0, UT1 etc. The reason that there is so many different universal times is that the Earth's rotation period is neither constant nor exactly 86400 seconds long.
