Your thoughts are my thoughts, except you managed to regain your composure for just long enough to state them rationally.

I'm sitting here, now home from the studio, watching the stream of the hearings. Listening. I have never been more repulsed of anything in my entire life.

If anyone needs help filling their rage quota for today, I saw this in a sopa comment thread over at arstechnica and thought it might help

There was actually a discussion about that tweet in the hearings. Somebody made a motion that he apologize to the committee.

My hands have been shaking more and more throughout this hearing. I am more terrified than I have been in a long time.

Oh really now? Was this before or after the discussion they had about providing three different kinds of pizza for dinner? Image

I don't think the words to describe my anger even exist in English or, for that matter, any other language.

May I recommend the language of Stabbing Other People In The Face? It tends to get one's point across quite well.

Another day, more "debate" http://keepthewebopen.com/sopa

Who are the main people for and against SOPA?
Open letter from inventors of the internet against SOPA

If anybody has a link to a site keeping track of what is going on, let me know. It is hard to watch ALL of the hearings.

Smith said the hearing would resume at the “earliest practical day that Congress is in session.” Hours later, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-California) tweeted that the committee would resume action Wednesday.

Okay, I get that this is a fuzzy, complex issue with a lot of factors on both sides to consider, but let me boil it down for you:

GoDaddy (yeah, those douchebags) supports SOPA.

That should make it clear which side is right and which is wrong...

The big word there is that Cheezburger have said they'll be withdrawing from GoDaddy if they don't change their stance. Cheezburger have over a thousand domains. Woah. That's a big chunk o' change.

You see, I just don't get that. At all. GoDaddy is set to lose money if SOPA passes by virtue if websites that they've provided a domain to potentially being shut down. It's like of Budweiser threw it's support behind a new bill for prohibition.

Does nothing that these people do make sense?

EDIT: A quick note after reading the article; if Eli Roth, the director of fucking Hostel, calls you a "sick fuck", than buddy, you need to take a step back and look at some of the choices you've made in life.

Vanguard - On the contrary, GoDaddy will MAKE money. Pirates set up a website, buy a domain from GoDaddy. Somebody reports them, GoDaddy removes the domain, and the pirates buy another.

So GoDaddy just sold two domains instead of one. Repeat this a few thousand times, and it'll add up to a good bonus for those executives.

It is like if a beer manufacturer sells you beer, but after you take a sip, some dick knocks the beer out of your hand and you have to buy another one. If it happens enough, the beer manufacturer could see a decent increase in profit.

GoDaddy is the beer manufacturer hiring dicks to knock beer out of your hand.

Now, I've never bought a domain from this fistfull of assholes, so forgive me if I'm getting this wrong, but doesn't that system work by buying the domain for, say, (x) dollars and then paying (x) dollars again every month as an upkeep fee? If that's the case I don't see why it even matters if people need to buy new domains from them or not.

Granted, if people have to pay the fairly steep (x) fee up front and then (y) on top of that per month I can see why they'd reap the benefits.

Nope. Buying a domain is a set fee up front ($9 for 1 year, $30 for 2 years etc), then you renew it once your time runs out. The minimum is a year, so if you get shut down after 1 month and have to register a new domain, GoDaddy just $20 for 13 months instead of $10 for 12.

EDIT: Re-reading, I think your confusion is between hosting and domains. Hosting is typically month by month, but hosting isn't affected by SOPA. SOPA just removes the domain, so typing "google.com" wouldn't take you to google, but it would still be running on their servers.

But if it was the beer company who was knocking the beer out of your hand while boasting about doing it, would you really buy beer from that company again? I mean, maybe if they had just not put up a giant billboard reading, "Buy bear from us so we can come over and knock it out of your hand," but... they did.

I've never owned a domain, so I might just not understand it, but if I had a domain through GoDaddy and they chose to shut my domain down due to some stupid SOPA related crap, I sure as hell wouldn't be buying another domain from them. Anyone who would sign up with or stay with GoDaddy after this probably isn't too bright, but anyone who would sign up with them a second time after being shut down the first time is a lost cause.
