LRR has changed the way I speak.

Postby Ahlir » 25 Nov 2011, 20:12

I have a habit for subconsciously picking up things that other people say on a regular basis and adding to my daily language. Often I will do this more and longer then the original person. So here are the two (so far) lines that have entered how I normally talk.
"Aww muffin." and "Using the word Bus for a swear word." There will most likely be more.

Has the happened to anyone else? Also it doesn't just have to be LRR. I just need to know I'm not crazy... I know, I know, I am crazy.

It happens to me all the time. I use 'aww muffin' and many others, I have started using 'work with daddy on this' with the accent and everything. Your not crazy...or am I?

I think that happens to anyone who watches LRR on a regular basis.

It goes along with people feeling more attached to Crew members than they would be to other actors or internet personalities. Especially after binging on podcasts (or in the weeks after Desert Bus), I'll find their speech mannerisms creeping into my own conversations quite frequently.

There have been threads like this before, where people have actually made lists of which things they pick up. . . but I'm lazy, so suffice it to say, 'a lot' for me.

I picked up "Aww Muffin" from LRR, as well as "so that's a thing", and "I am appoint" / "I am disappoint".

I already had "I need an adult", and "'ish", in my regular vocabulary though.

Oh... and yes, I nearly swapped out a curse word for "bus" earlier today.

I always had Iah but it was a different thing from me VERY STRANGE school days. Wait so "So that was a thing" is from LRR? Ok well that's another I've add. Plus me and a friend often quote the Dirge of Cerberus UnSkippable when ever we see Vincent.

It's not just you. If I hear a line spoken in a way I find particularly interesting and/or entertaining, I am likely to attempt to emulate that to entertain myself. If I like it enough, the intonations will end up in my own repertoire. A perfect example is the way Graham exclaims "Oh goddamnit!" in the video The Bet. There are plenty of others, but when pressed, they don't come to mind so quickly.

I do this a lot, as well.

"So... that's a thing" and, for some reason, "Outstanding" from Rodriguez and Riley come to mind. More certainly abound.

I can't think of any not mentioned, mostly because they've become such a part of my speech that I don't notice them anymore.

Yeah, I say 'bus' instead of swearing now. So that'll be interesting when school goes back.

Actually, I've been thinking about this, and while it's not exactly how I speak, watching LRR has made me more likely to improvise and go along with a situation. So that's good.

"So... then that happened" is something that's certainly entered my vocabulary...

Also I caught "X is my Y cover band" from LRR, though I know it isn't theirs originally. It's also tricky for me, since I don't actually know that many bands, but still.

eat a bowl of dicks is something i say a fair bit. As is 'awww muffin' and 'cry me a river'. I blame steve for everything, I have to stop myself saying bus. I am often appoint.

I also find my speech patterns mirroring G*'s sometimes.

I picked up 'so, that's a thing' from Graham definitely and have used it a lot now. I already used 'ish' to finish words.

My flatmate has a specific way of saying 'what?' after he's said something that either offends/amuses others. I've definitely stolen that from him. I also use 'Booo-urns' from The Simpsons at least once a day it seems. I'm sure there are many other things but I can't think of them right now or probably haven't realised yet.

I've found myself using "bowl of dicks" AND "huff a dong" pretty regularly. I know there's other (cleaner) things I've picked up, but my brain's still in post-DB recovery.
(edit: "Fair enough" too, thanks for the reminder Logic Sword)

I have frak and smeg already to cover for swearing, the only thing I can think of that I've picked up from the LRR crew is "Fair enough."

I've picked up sooo many things from LRR from "Aww Muffin" to "So... that happened" to "THE DUTCH!... AGAIN!" and beyond. I often use "You think that's bad? I've seen Skeletor's dick," when someone is complaining about something mundane and stupid (like the FB GUI changes or GAME complaining that new game sales taper off toward the end of the 1st 3 days of release).

But I have to say that the one that's made the biggest difference is that I've gotten members of my family to pronounce "Fajitas" differently (anyone who was a LRRndon will know what I mean).

I substitute bus for swearing for at least a month after Desert Bus, and would probably do it for longer if I didn't have to make a conscious effort not to so people would understand me. "Awww muffin" has now replaced what I used to say- "awww diddums" and that happened pretty much unconsciously. I don't say it very much but "so that was a thing" or "so that happened" is slowly creeping into my vocabulary. When someone's annoying my in my head I say stuff like "go huff a dong" but I don't usually say it out loud.

I have a tendency to tell people to go eat a bowl of dicks now. Also I say "again" with emphasis on the 'gain' and it's all because of Graham.

I know that feel. One time, someone asked me if I was Canadian, just because I pronounce 'been' and the ain syllable correctly.

I can't remember exactly where it was from, but I think it was from a few of the Whatever Things, or Phailhausen, or Podcasts, or Desert Bus... improv stuff that goes wildly off the rails, and then Graham tries to drag it back onto some form of topic. I think it's less a LRR quote, and more just something that Graham says a bunch.
