Is Blockbuster still viable in canada?
I go to a few sites based in the frozen south and they all have blockbuster ads, but they are pretty much dead in the US. Do they still have sway or are they just trying to make a come back with the whole Netflix FU.

Blockbuster is still going strong-ish in the UK.

As far as I know Blockbuster where I'm from has started shutting down. They let go the management first (or the most expensive employees) and they are working to shut down last I heard. Not sure if it's all gone yet though.

The one by my house closed. And I know most of the others did, too.
Which is funny because I wanted to rent a video the other day. We got it at, of all places, the library.

All the Blockbuster's I've seen in Toronto are shutting down and a friend of mine who worked in their offices has been layed off. They're done here.

Yeah in Toronto I walk past many spooky "abandoned" blockbusters.

I get the vast majority of my DVDs from the library. Not sure about the Vancouver one, but the Fraser Valley library system gets basically everything, and if you watch their catalogue and order them quickly you can often get them within a month of release. It's pretty handy. The best parts: they're free and you get to keep them for weeks longer than a rental.

Actually, it was an old movie (Roman Holiday - 1953), which Blockbuster probably wouldn't have had anyways.

You can also now borrow Kindle's from libraries! I'm not sure if the FVRL is included in that though... I know the Surrey Public Library is doing it, and so is the Edmonton Public Library. I'm assuming most of the BC ones are the same.

Not the Burnaby ones as I recall. And Kindle is the only e-reader that doesn't support downloadable books/e-books from the BPL.

Yeah, FVRL also has ebooks (e-books? eBooks? I don't know), which is pretty nifty. I don't personally have a reader, but I know my mother is really enjoying not needing to hold such heavy books.
