I'm watching QI right now. Not the pipe one though. The Dalai Farmer one

There. And Sean Lock is one of my favourites. He reminds me so much of my Granddad.

Re: Menswear
I just found out Series I came out, so I started from A again and am working my way back up to it.

Series I is a bit of a bastard to find now. The usual "provider" I have got disposed of. But he's back and trying again! I'm watching the Christmas special now. You all got me in the mood for it.

Seriously considering picking up a plaid tie in one of the MacMillan hunting tartans (My mother was a MacMillan)
It's purdy.

Of course I'm out of my mind. It's dark and scary in there!

Actually pipe smokers tend to have tongue and throat cancers, not lung ones, because you're not supposed to inhale when you smoke a pipe, you just leave it in your mouth then blow it out.
Agreed about it being classy though.

I'm considering joining their "Bowtie of the Month" club. It works out to a pretty reasonable price.

Re: Menswear
Could I see myself needing twelve bow ties? No? Well then.
I'm more tempted by the Put This On Gentleman's Association.
But I need to wear more jackets to justify it.

Re: Menswear
Were I not too lazy to bypass the Wikipedia blackout, I could give you the exact details, but for now I'll have to rely on memory.
Trenchcoats properly refer to a type of coat worn by British officers in the trenches of WWI. In addition to generally been full-length (an overcoat may only go down to the knees, any higher would be a topcoat, though), it also includes features epaulets, a gun flap, and is made from gabardine.
Of course, there are many items that are marketed as trenchcoats, but may have none of those features. A similar coat is a duster, which derives from horse riding, which features a long vent on the back, and are often made out of leather. Many of the longcoats shown worn in the Matrix were in fact dusters, not trench coats.
Of course, without Wikipedia, my memory is iffy at best. So take that with a grain of salt.

Re: Menswear
I'd really like to get a good duster too, some day when I have the money for it. Right now I have a gray London Fog overcoat that I do enjoy, though, plus it probably fits better with the rest of my ensemble then a leather coat would.

Re: Menswear
There are multiple types of overcoats, as well. For example, although I already have a plain black wool overcoat, I would love to have a covert coat (not as cool as it sounds) in camel.

WIWT:
This time showing off my OTHER favourite accessory: my ring. It has Quatzecoatl on it, and is basically on track to be an heirloom (was my dad's when he was like 15. His parents got it for him in mexico).
Met: you'll happily note (though you can't, thanks to sweater) that that shirt is a button down collar.

I'm working on it!
I was going to try it with a tie (not to work. Ties are faux pas at work), but my camera is too low res to pick it up well (the lines are too thin).

I think your problem is lighting. My lighting makes me look a hell of a lot fatter than I am.

Re: Menswear
Lmao, that would be awesome.
Nay, it is a black tie with navy and light blue lines. They are shiny lines, and very thin. The navy blurs with the black in the photo, making it seem purple, I guess.

Re: Menswear
Just a reminder, if you're budget is a consideration preventing you from dressing well, you should be keeping up with Kiyoshi's Ramen Noodle Budget series on PTO.
Also Minimal Viable Wardrobe is a great new tumblr by a guy trying to dress well, not by buying new things, but by eliminating them. Recommended read.

Re: Menswear
don't kill me, but i only read up to page 5, but I just thought I would put this in here. I'm part of a college choral group of all men that performs on a national and international level quite regularly. The thing is, we're in college, so every year we have a bunch of incoming freshman who don't know how to dress properly. so, for our annual fall concert, 25% of the choir had never worn a tails coat (And I would like to just state for the record here, that a tails coat and a tux are very different and mixing the two up is quite a gaffe) so 2 hours before our first major concert 1/4 of us looked like GWB in this picture and the others looked like prince phillip. Without the medals and decorations of course.
fortunately, we got everyone looking nice and tidy. But my point was that whereas in the world of business casual, these are not solid rules, for a guy like me, who has in his closet a tux, tails, blazer and a variety of tailored suits, these are rules I have to follow in order to not look a complete fool and not make my compatriots look like fools. As such, much of how I dress in public has transferred over, I tend to wear dressier clothes than a lot of my schoolmates, and I always wear button shirts if I'm leaving the house. And of course, I always wear my tie Full Windsor, because nowadays, to me anything less just looks lazy and kind of sloppy.
