Re: Menswear
I've come around. They have their advantages; no weird faux dick lump when sitting, for example.

Re: Menswear
Fuck the faux dick lump.
I was wondering if there was a solution to that with slacks.
I hate it so much.
Jeans it doesn't really happen too much.

Re: Menswear
I really hate the faux dick lump on my pants.
Re: Menswear
I remember being in junior high and having my neighbour whisper in my ear "look at the teacher, she's got a boner" and then trying to control my laughter.
But I never get a faux dick lump, or I haven't noticed one. I wonder why. It seems pretty common on other people.

Re: Menswear
I'm trying to figure out what to wear for the "Formal Friday" tomorrow. I'll probably go with my Burgundy shirt tomorrow, but I don't think it will go as well with my white sweater as the white shirt went with the red sweater last week. Since my only other sweater (gray with horizontal green stripes, and elbow patches for some reason) doesn't really go with my sportcoat, I'll probably forgo the sweater altogether. For the tie, I'll probably go with a golden paisley pattern, and a tie clip since I don't have the sweater.
The next time I'm home I'm going to try and find some new ties, since I only have 4, and they don't give me quite the variety I want. I also need to pick up some more shirts. Unfortunately most of them are actually short-sleeved that I had picked up over the summer, and most of the variety in my full shirts are with the button-downs, which I'm not going to be wearing with a tie.

Re: Menswear
No ties with button-downs? Really?
I loves me ties and button-downs. Not formal, but still.

Re: Menswear
I was under the impression that wearing ties with button downs was decidedly uncouth. Further investigation (From our good friends at Put This On) reveals that it is only inappropriate when wearing a suit, or outside of America (and thus Canada). So in this situation, tie+OCBD is perfectly fine, and I stand corrected.
Of course, all my good button-downs are in the laundry, so that doesn't help me much right now. But I shall keep it in mind.

Re: Menswear
Thanks for posting this, Master Gunner. The fact that it's American explains why I had never heard of button-down collars before this thread, despite living with 4 males for about two decades.

Re: Menswear
I know the rule but it's one I enjoy breaking. And I think it looks good.
And yeah, the button-down collar - and particularly, the oxford-cloth button-down - is a distinctly American style.

Re: Menswear
I only actually prefer button-downs when I'm wearing a sweater, because it helps keep the collars in line, but even then, it depends on the sweater. The rest of the time, I usually don't care, but I lean towards point collars for daily wear.

Re: Menswear
So I was listening to the radio last night, and the DJs were discussing how Shreveport, Louisiana is trying to push through a law banning wearing pajamas in public. They then decided to ask the listeners to write/call in with the clothing you would most wish to ban from public.
The female DJ said these:
The male DJ said jeans that you buy two sizes too long and just walk off the remaining length.
What stuff would you ban?

Eyeglasses... without lenses.
There's a lot of stuff that offends me but that's the only one that sparks outright revulsion and rage.

Re: Menswear
I almost bought a pair of vintage tortoiseshell Wayfairer shades (because seriously, they're legit) but I was like, "no way I can pull this off without looking like a hipster douchebag".
I think I'll get a pair of aviators from Randolph Engineering or American Optical before the summer though. Good deals on eBay.

In retrospect, "David Bowie cover band" might have been even more obvious.

Re: Menswear
I know this is the menswear thread and I'm a delicate little lady-flower and all, but I'd just like to say, Matt, that you look pretty damn slick in most of your photos. I applaud your sense of fashion, good sir.
Also do people seriously wear glasses without lenses? If you're going to fake poor eyesight, couldn't you at least do so with some glass in them? Surely that shouldn't hinder your eyesight too badly. I think I might have to resist the urge to punch someone in the face if I saw them just wearing frames.

Re: Menswear
If I ever do see someone wearing just frames, I am taking them. Then using them to carve out internal organs.

Re: Menswear
I see wearing lensless glasses as kinda like using a crutch with two working legs, or wearing a leg brace just for funzies.

Re: Menswear
Yeah, when it comes down to it, it really is offensive.
And yes it really occurs. I see it occasionally - check my tweet from Tuesday. I'll tweet every time I see it from now on. My only issue would be that, at least for the last guy I saw it on, he was definitely an Asian immigrant. So he wouldn't understand it when I say, "I took those off your face and gouged out your eyes with them because you are a Bad Person."

Re: Menswear
Am I the only person who doesn't have a problem with it?
Like, I would refuse laser eye surgery, because I'd rather have glasses as a fashion accessory. I totally get why a person with normal eyesight would want to wear a pair. I would. (mind you, I'd put lenses in them, just non-prescription).
