Deep dish isn't pizza, so this is fine.

Pizza by definition must be able to be eaten without utensils.

In my experience, tofu tastes like whatever you cook it in.

Tofu, on its own, is practically flavorless, with a veeeery slight bitter/acrid flavor. It takes on the flavor of what you cook or marinate it in.

Personally, the best thing I've found to do with it is cut it in to chunks, bread it with cornstarch and seasonings, and bake it to crispy.

There are a myriad of Chinese marinades that are usually used for meat that work very well with tofu. My personal favourite is char siu marinade on very firm tofu and just letting it absorb the flavour (and make everything in you fridge smell of char siu) for 2-3 days before cooking. Just add some pak choi stir fried in sesame oil with crushed garlic and birds eye chillies, and some rice and you've got yourself a delicious vegan Chinese meal.

On tofu generally though, the isoflavone in soy products can mess with your oestrogen levels if you consume it a lot and frequently.
Ergo bibamus!

It doesn't taste like anything unless you cook it in something else.
That's the beauty of tofu: it can be anything you want it to be.
I used to make miso soup with tofu but it's a pain in the ass to get the ingredients here so I never bothered to try tofu in anything again.

Made me a whole bunch of fairly cheap smoked mackrel and green pepper sushi. My lunch is going to be fancy for the next few days.

Here's vaguely how

Put properly cooked rice into suchezi that my brother bought me for xmas along with thinly sliced green pepper and mackrel
Image

Close and squidge contents together with the plunger doohickey
Image

The suchezi poops out a perfectly regular shaped rice tooooob that can be rolled up really easily
Image
Then slice as normal

Then eat the spare ingredients

I made white cheddar and blue cheese mac'n'cheese, steamed kale on the side yesterday and am about to have it for lunch.

Since I've moved recently, I've been forced to notice that I have way too many kitchen things that I ought to use. Therefore I should make more cookies to justify my cookie cutter collection. Also, I've been thinking about making cream puffs again simply because they're super easy.

Weekend after this coming one, I'm going up to a friend's place where we are going to make pickles and preserves! Stuff in jars, woo!

I was also told by my Mum that the plate I chose on a whim to display it was given to my Dad by his late sister. So... yes... :)

I got some "Italian" seasoned breadcrumbs a while back that I've mostly been using to make fried eggplant, but today I used them to bread tilapia and pan-fry it, and it was very tasty.

Payday approaches, food is scarce - a tip for the thrifty: make bread. It costs next to nothing and lasts for ages, and is delicious with all sorts thrown in - I was able to pick up really cheap parmesan, sun-dried tomatoes, oregano & rosemary.

Isn't it actually "tortilla"? That's how I call it anyway.
Made some for Bebop and I yesterday. It tasted awesome but the presentation... not so much (damn you tortilla!)

No, tortilla is the flatbread used for tacos, quesadillas, etc. My family has always called omelettes "tortas" with an A.

Okay, actual reason I came in here, I cooked calamari for the first time tonight. Breaded and pan-fried. Made a salad to go with it as well. It turned out alright.

I'm not good at cooking, but I can make mean rye-pancakes. Served with fresh strawberries, bananas and vanilla icecream. And a huge cup of lemon earl grey on the side.

I had some milk about to go, so yesterday I made a mornay with it. To go with this mornay (sharp cheddar, as I don't have any gruyere or other traditional mornay cheeses), I made rice with veggies (frozen mixed veggies cooked in the rice), and chicken cutlets, using pulverized stale unsalted saltines as crumbs. For being my first time making cutlets, I'm super proud of myself! I pan fried them in a drizzle of canola oil, and they turned out perfectly tender and juicy inside and nice and crisp on the outside.

The meal was inspired by a food truck I used to partake of regularly, who had a dish almost exactly like this, except their sauce was I think just a straight bechamel. The part that's really missing from the meal is the Hong Kong style milk tea I would've gotten from the truck. I'm very sad I don't have the stuff to make my own.

I made cinnamon pancakes and breakfast sausages for dinner last night. Followed by ice cream cake for dessert. According to my uncle, the pancakes were delicious. And who doesn't like ice cream cake?

Cinnamon is also surprisingly good with beef, at least in the case of Lebanese meat pies.
